CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Wis. – A black bear is thanking its lucky stars that a Wisconsin family was in the right place at the right time.After a day of fishing on Sunday, Tricia Hurt told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that she, her husband and their son were returning to a dock on Marsh-Miller Lake when they spotted something strange in the water.As the family approached, they realized it was a young bear that was struggling to swim because it had a cheese ball container stuck around its head.They felt compelled to help free the bear from the tub, worrying that if they didn’t, it wouldn’t be able to make it back to short safely.So, Tricia says her son Brady maneuvered their boat while her husband leaned into the water to tug on the container. It took multiple passes, but they eventually managed to free the animal from the plastic. Tricia says the bear then swam back to shore.The family believes that if they had not helped the bear, it may have not made it to shore, because it was breathing heavily and the container had filled with water.Tricia documented their rescue efforts on video and posted it online. As of Tuesday morning, her Facebook post has been shared more than 18,000 times.The family says the bear had actually been spotted several times over the past few days and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources had been looking for it, but without any luck. 1389

China's Tiangong-1 space lab re-entered the Earth's atmosphere around 8.15 a.m. Monday (8:15 p.m. ET Sunday) in a fiery fall, China's Manned Space Agency said.Tiangong-1 plummeted into the middle of the South Pacific, the space agency said."Most parts were burned up in the re-entry process," the agency said.The out-of-control 40-foot long Tiangong-1, or "Heavenly Palace," is one of China's highest profile space projects. The unmanned space lab was launched in September 2011 as a prototype for China's ultimate space goal: a permanent space station that is expected to launch around 2022.But the Chinese government told the United Nations in May 2017 that its space lab had "ceased functioning" in March 2016, without saying exactly why.The incident was embarrassing for China's space program but it hasn't delayed its progress. In September 2016, China launched its second space lab, Tiangong-2.While it is not uncommon for debris such as satellites or spent rocket stages to fall to Earth, large vessels capable of supporting human life are rarer.NASA's first space station, Skylab, fell to Earth in an out-of-control re-entry in 1979, burning up harmlessly in the process.The last space outpost to drop was Russia's 135-ton Mir station in 2001, which made a controlled landing with most parts breaking up in the atmosphere. 1338

CHULA VISTA, Calif (KGTV) -- As Chula Vista continues to grow, so does the need for police officers in the city. Last June, voters approved a half cent sales tax increase, giving Chula Vista the highest sales tax in San Diego County. The money goes into the general fund, but os designated for hiring more police and firefighters. Despite the new sales tax, some business owners say they are still having issues with the department's response times. A bakery owner on Third Avenue tells 10News she sometimes has to call police multiple times a week to report a crime, but that sometimes police don't show up or shows up hours after the crime. Captain Phil Collum says the department has hired nine of the 12 officers currently allowed by Measure A. According to SANDAG, crime in Chula Vista is actually down 3 percent in 2019, including property and violent crimes. "Sometimes the perception that crime is on the rise or perception that things feel less safe than they were, in fact all of the data suggests otherwise," said Collum. In a recent survey, 91 percent of Chula Vistans said they are "very satisfied" with the department, despite not meeting response times for priority one and priority two calls. Collum said those response times are slowly improving. The police department says additional positions will be filled through the Measure A sales tax, meaning 31 additional officers by 2023. (KGTV) - A San Diego woman is recounting the gruesome story of digging up her murdered sister's body in a Tijuana backyard.Erika Gonzalez last heard from her 32 year old sister, Fernanda Gonzalez on February 2. One unanswered text turned into dozens before Gonzalez reported her sister missing three days later. The same day she was reported missing, her husband was shot inside their Tijuana home. He was taken to UCSD Medical Center and treated for his gunshot wound. He was unable to answer any questions about the shooting and his missing wife, so Gonzalez took to Facebook and asked for help. Gonzalez tells 10News each post had thousands of shares before she got a phone call that changed the course of the search, "somebody call me and said to keep looking for my sister because she was already dead and in the back of her yard". Following that call were two others that said the same thing, "three different people telling the same story it has to be true" Gonzalez says she immediately called the Tijuana investigator on the case but she says they said they wouldn't be able to get to the house for a few days. "Sunday my dad calls me and tells me that he wants to look for my sister."Gonzalez tells 10News they went directly to her home in Tijuana and started their own search for answers. Gonzalez and her father dug up parts of the backyard while her mother and sister searched inside the home. After some time of digging, Gonzalez tells 10News she saw her sister's boot and knew they had found her, "we just start screaming and walking from here to there not knowing what to do."Tijuana police got to the house about 20 minutes after they called to say they found the body. Tuesday, investigators had a search warrant and taped off the entire street so they could search the home. Officials say they do not have any suspects in custody. 1878

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Chula Vista City Council Tuesday approved a number of items to help people struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic. The city’s eviction moratorium was extended until at least July 31, giving renters relief if they cannot make their monthly rent payments.The council also approved a .5 million small business grant program to reimburse businesses for losses caused by the closures during the pandemic. The money comes from the federal government. Businesses can apply for the grant on the city’s website and must meet certain criteria. Some of the requirements include having less than 10 employees, being independently owned and not being an essential business.For businesses along Third Avenue, the relief is welcome. Chula Vista Brewery has moved their business outdoors and continued curbside pick-up to stay afloat during the pandemic.In a move to expand outdoor dining, Chula Vista’s council approved a permitting process to allow businesses on Third Avenue to expand into the public right of way, with social distancing and ADA compliance. This will allow for things like sidewalk and curb cafes.The city also authorized the closure of a portion of Third Avenue to traffic.
