A Starbucks worker in New Jersey allegedly spat in police officers' drinks, officials said Tuesday.Park Ridge officers arrested Kevin Trejo, 21, on charges of subjecting a law enforcement officer to contact with bodily fluid, knowingly tampering with a cup of coffee while knowing it was ordered by a law enforcement officer and creating a hazardous or physically dangerous condition. In a statement, Park Ridge Police Chief Joseph Madden said Trejo was arrested after an investigation found that he spat in the drinks of officers who patronized the store where he worked.New Jersey State Policemen's Benevolent Association President Patrick Colligan called Trejo's alleged actions "outrageous.""Every time I think we as society hit bottom, there is a new incident," Colligan said. "Officers risk their lives daily, it shouldn't be while getting coffee."A Starbucks spokesperson said Trejo was no longer employed by the company."Obviously this individual's behavior was reprehensible and not at all a reflection of how our partners or employees treat our customers on a daily basis," the spokesperson said.Starbucks is working with the police department in the investigation.WPIX's Aliza Chasan first reported this story. 1228

A record number of unaccompanied immigrant children, about 14,000, are currently in US custody, a Health and Human Services spokesman said Friday. The spokesman, Mark Weber, said the additional requirements put in place by the Trump administration to "reduce risk and increase safety" for immigrant children contributed to the high number."We are taking all possible steps to protect children in an environment with many bad actors," Weber said. "We are balancing speed with safety and will err on the side of safety."The Houston Chronicle earlier reported the figure.Last spring, the Trump administration heightened scrutiny of adults coming forward to take care of the immigrant children, and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement now conducts exhaustive screenings of the adults. But many of them are undocumented themselves and fearful of ICE obtaining their information. These Trump administration policies are likely keeping these children in custody.Lawsuits have also accused the administration of extending children's stays, including allegedly holding them intentionally until they turn 18 and are eligible for stricter adult detention. Many of the children do have a legal right to stay in the US, but the legal process can take years.Weber said the high number was also due to the 50,000 Department of Homeland Security referrals of unaccompanied children this year, which he said is the third-highest annual total. DHS referred 59,170 unaccompanied children to HHS in fiscal year 2016, according to a HHS fact sheet, and 40,810 in fiscal year 2017.The number of children in custody changes daily because of referrals by DHS and HHS releases of children to sponsors, Weber said. Most of these children arrived in the US unaccompanied. Children separated under Trump's so-called "zero tolerance" policy account for less than 200 of the reported 14,000. CNN reported earlier this month there are still 171 children separated from their families, four months after a judge ordered the US government to reunite the undocumented immigrant families it had split up at the border, according to court documents. In 2016, the monthly average of the number of children in HHS's care ranged from just over 4,000 to over 9,000. 2230

A man was arrested for battery and disorderly conduct for allegedly spitting on a boy and telling him he “now has coronavirus.”Jason Copenhaver, 47, walked up to the boy on Sunday at a restaurant in Treasure Island, Florida. He asked the boy if he was wearing a face mask, according to the police report. The boy said yes, and Copenhaver told him to take it off and asked to shake his hand. The boy refused, according to police, then Copenhaver grabbed the boy’s hand and said “you now have coronavirus” while standing close enough to the boy for spit to land on his face. The police report also notes that Copenhaver was believed to be under the influence of alcohol, and tried to hit an employee at the restaurant who asked him to sit down. Staff was able to walk him outside and hold him on the ground until police arrived.Once in custody, Copenhaver told police he doesn’t know if he has coronavirus and has never been tested. 936

A new survey finds 20 percent of grandparents hate their grandchild's name.Online British parenting websites Mumsnet and Gransnet surveyed 2,000 parents and grandparents to learn just how closely grandparents are involved in the naming of a baby.Thirty-eight percent of parents responded saying it is none of the grandparents' business when it comes to choosing babies’ names. Just 31 percent of grandparents agree with that.Fifteen percent of parents say they have a parent or in-law who hates their baby’s name. The disagreement over a baby's name can have long-lasting effects. Six percent of parents say they have fallen out with their parents or in-laws because of the name they gave their son or daughter."Choosing a baby name is fraught enough for parents when you’re only taking into account your own views," said Mumsnet Founder Justine Roberts. "If you add grandparents’ biases to the mix, it can become impossible, unless by some freakish chance you all agree that the baby has 'Cedric' written all over him."Parents overwhelmingly said objections on a baby's name came more from their own mom or their mother-in-law than their dad or father-in-law.Reasons given for grandparents disagreeing over a name choice include the name being too odd, too made up, too old fashioned, too hard to pronounce or not a family name.Names hated the most by grandparents include: Aurora, Charlotte, Elijah, Finn, Jack, Lindsay, Noah, Sally and Tabitha.-----------------------Full survey results: 1512
