SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For the entire month of October, all kids 11-years-old or younger can visit the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park for free.The zoo is offering free entry from Oct. 1 to 31, adding that surprise activities will also be scheduled through the weekends. The offer is valid for one paying adult and up to 5 children (ages 11 and younger).Both zoos will require that all visitors continue wearing facial coverings and cooperate with regulations around the coronavirus pandemic. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Doctor saves man from jumping off Coronado Bay BridgeA Coronado doctor is sharing his story of talking down a bridge jumper in hopes others will see how someone can be helped from a desperate situation.Dr. Matthew Bruhin was driving back on the Coronado Bay Bridge with his wife when they noticed a man walking on the side of the bridge.RELATED: San Diego-based senator seeks stronger safety measures on Coronado BridgeBruhin says traffic was moving slow enough where he put on his hazard lights and began talking with the man.At one point, the doctor says the man asked Bruhin and his wife to look away.Bruhin is the CEO of a mental health firm and says he and his wife kept the conversation going with the man until the would-be jumper accepted their help.RELATED: Cycling, pedestrian 'tube' could be added to Coronado Bay BridgeThe psychotherapist says he is grateful that law enforcement let him continue talking to the man rather than bringing in a police negotiator.According to Bruhin, the man is a patient and no longer suicidal.A GoFundMe page has been set up for the man.  1139

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Homeowners in Mission Hills say someone is back to shining a laser pointer into their homes after a several week hiatusNew video from over the weekend a shows someone pointing a laser into a family’s living room.The laser pointer appears to be coming from the same place as it was back in January when 10News first did the story.Daniel Wang lives in Mission Hills and says his living room turned a blueish green on Friday. “The kids were here so luckily they didn’t look directly at the beam,” said Wang, “that’s the only thing to worry about.”Neighbors have filed a police report, but not much progress has been made because the source of the laser appears to be from a common space in an apartment complex.Doctors say lasers can cause blindness and in some cases induce seizures for those who have epilepsy.Shining a laser into another person’s eyes in California is a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to 30 days in jail. 955

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Every Thursday afternoon in Logan Heights, people line up to get food.Angela Brannon-Baptiste is the woman who started the pantry and the organization that supplies it, called "It's All About the Kids".The non-profit has been serving local families since 2004, handing out more than 1.5 million meals and counting."They tell us that for many of them this is the only food they're receiving because there's just no money to buy food," said Baptiste.When the pandemic hit the group saw the need grow almost overnight."We saw hundreds of additional families come to see us each week and it was a bit frightening," Baptiste explained.Although they'd like to help everyone, they're restricted by their own means.Unlike some other food distribution programs that operate on a first come first serve basis, It's All About the Kids takes a more targeted approach."We decided we needed to narrow that down and really work with the schools to identify who was most in need, so that's who we help now," Baptiste said.At this point, that help is going to about 2,200 families currently on the program.Those who show up get boxes of not just something to eat, but something good to eat.Batiste says it's important they provide as much fresh food as possible, " I think that food is so important and that is our responsibility as successful adults to give back to those that are less fortunate and to help them, so that's just always been my mantra." 1463
