CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Authorities have filed criminal charges against a mother accused of driving around barricades during a hurricane, resulting in the drowning death of her 1-year-old son.Union County Sheriff’s detectives say that Dazia Ideah Lee, 20, of Charlotte, drove around highway barricades and kept going east until her vehicle encountered rushing water flowing across the road during Hurricane Florence. Her car left the roadway and came to a rest among a group of trees where she managed to free herself and her 1-year-old son Kaiden Lee-Welch. However, she lost her grip on Kaiden in the rushing water.“The tragic death of this child and the circumstances surrounding this case are heartbreaking. We continue to pray for all those suffering as a result of this child’s death," Sheriff Eddie Cathey stated. "However, after a very thorough investigation and taking all facts into consideration and applying the law, we feel that these charges are appropriate.”Lee faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter and a misdemeanor charge of driving on a closed/unopened highway in connection with the death of her son.She is due in court on November 20, 2018. 1192

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) -- If "Toy Story" were real, it might have looked like Sue and Stephen Stewart's rooftop."I thought a few people would notice, but no, they now come by constantly," described Sue Stewart. It all started when Sue and her husband Stephen wanted to bring smiles and joy to their neighborhood amid COVID-19, while they worked from home."He saw something on the internet similar and he thought this is what I'm gonna do. He ordered all of them and then we had to figure out 'How am I going to get them up on the roof?'"Little did they know their small investment would equal something big."I went to get the mail and these people go, 'That is the best thing ever.' You have no idea what an impact he's making. He's making people smile," Sue said about her husband's work.Kids weren't the only ones eager to get a glimpse of their favorite characters."It's couples, it's adults. There's two ladies that walk by every single day and check it out every single day."Every other week was a different scene and sometimes, someone new."We didn't have the aliens so we got the aliens and moved them one time. We moved the position of Buzz and Woody and got Little Bo-Peep in," Sue described. They moved the figurines safely with fishing line. Sue said they chose Toy Story because of it's message that we're all in this together. 1346

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) – At a virtual hearing on Tuesday, a San Diego judge ordered that the name could be revealed of the teenager who’s accused of killing a woman on a Carlsbad trail. Images of his face, however, were ordered to remain private.17-year-old Haloa Beaudet's defense counsel denies the allegations. He is suspected of stabbing Lisa Thorborg on Hosp Grove trail in November. “His DNA was found on the victim. We have him running on surveillance camera [video] away from the murder scene in a time that's consistent with the time of death,” said a detective. The prosecution showed a surveillance camera image of him running barefoot on the street, away from the trail at 11:25 a.m. on the day that Thorborg died. “We feel that she died at about 11:10 a.m. so that's about 15 minutes after she was murdered,” said the detective.Other surveillance camera images that were shown in the hearing captured the teen on the same trail in the days after the murder.Detectives said that a few days later, he was arrested for prowling on the trail. Once taken into custody, a sample of his DNA was taken. “Ultimately, they found that DNA from [Haloa’s swabs] matched the male DNA on Ms. Thorborg's shorts,” said a detective.Detectives also said that a pair of flip flops that they believe belong to the teen were discovered near Thorborg. His defense attorney argued that Thorborg may have discovered and picked up those flip flops, which was how she got his DNA on her.The teen's attorney said that there's no motive for a murder. His grandmother told the judge that he has no history of violence. The judge decided that the case can move forward.Beaudet’s next hearing is scheduled for January 25th.The teen is ordered to remain in-custody for the time being. 1770

BURBANK (CNS) - The Walt Disney Co. reported sharp year-over-year third-quarter revenue drops today, thanks in part to the coronavirus-prompted closure of its theme parks, but the success of its streaming services, most notably Disney+, gave the Burbank company a needed boost.Disney reported third-quarter revenue of .8 billion, a 42% drop from last year's third quarter, but still ahead of industry expectations.Revenue losses were fueled largely by the closure of Disney parks worldwide, with the company's Parks, Experiences and Products segment seeing an 85% revenue drop from the third quarter of last year. The only Disney segment not to report a drop in revenue was the Direct-to-Consumer & International segment, which showed a 2% gain.In terms of operating income, the company's Media Networks showed a 48% jump.``Despite the ongoing challenges of the pandemic, we've continued to build on the incredible success of Disney+ as we grow our direct-to-consumer businesses,'' Disney CEO Bob Chapek said in a statement. ``The global reach of our full portfolio of direct-to-consumer services now exceeds an astounding 100 million paid subscriptions -- a significant milestone and a reaffirmation of our DTC strategy, which we view as key to the future growth of our company.''The company's streaming services are Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu, with Disney+ representing more than half of the empire's 100 million subscribers, according to the company.Disney reported diluted earnings per share of 8 cents, down from .34 in the same quarter last year. The company had originally planned to reopen its Disneyland and California Adventure theme parks in Anaheim on July 17, but those plans were scrapped as the state saw a surge of coronavirus cases. That surge prompted a delay in the state's release of operating protocols for large venues such as theme parks. The Downtown Disney shopping and entertainment district reopened to the public on July 9, although some individual businesses remained closed. 2016
