But now times have changed, and so has the way they see their doctor. St. Paul's PACE in El Cajon has made a major adjustment in providing care for their elderly patients. They are now ofering what you might call a clinic on four wheels. "They used to come to the clinic for services, which some still do. But because of self isolation, and the fear of being in a crowded place, we have found a way to take care of them in a different manner," says St. Paul's PACE Medical Director Dr. Victor LeeAnd their new way of helping patients is what they are calling a roving clinic. It's basically the comforts of a doctors office, all inside a van"Our staff came up with some creative ways, and one of the ways was to create and convert a van into a clinic. So we can go to their homes to take care of them."The van is considered a safe place for patients who do not feel comfortable seeking treatment at home, or at the clinic."Doctors can examine them, and nurses can do their vital signs Whatever we can do in the clinic we try and replicate inside the van."There are currently close to 1,000 patients in the St. Paul's PACE program, many of whom Dr. Lee describes as frail with multiple medical problems. So the roving clinic has been a life saver. "They love it. We go to their place, we park outside their apartment, or even in a parking lot. Somewhere where there is privacy, we take care of them right there." 1563

EL CAJON (CNS) - A man accused of setting a bank ablaze and looting several stores following a contentious police protest in La Mesa pleaded not guilty today to nearly a dozen felony arson, burglary and vandalism charges.Ricky Bernard Cooper, 33, is charged with setting a fire inside the Chase bank branch at 4791 Spring St. and looting Sally Beauty, Play it Again Sports and the Vons supermarket at the La Mesa Springs Shopping Center.Deputy District Attorney David Vallero alleged that Cooper was one of several people who broke into businesses at the shopping center and took items on the night of May 30.The prosecutor said Cooper also admitted to burning papers inside the bank, though he claimed they ``didn't catch.'' Vallero alleged that several people lit fires inside the bank, which burned to the ground.``This defendant was engaged in very serious conduct which, probably from his perspective during this night, seemed like a night when there was going to be no laws and no rules,'' Vallero alleged. San Diego County Superior Court Judge John Thompson set Cooper's bail at 0,000. His next court date is a Nov. 30 readiness conference.Cooper's arrest was announced last week by the FBI, along with the arrest of 19-year-old Alexander Jacob King, who is also accused of arson and looting. County jail records show King is no longer in custody, though he's still expected to face charges.Protests that took place in La Mesa on May 29 and May 30 were sparked by the Memorial Day in-custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the controversial arrest of another Black man, Amaurie Johnson, in La Mesa a few days prior to the protest. Johnson's rough arrest by a white La Mesa police officer was captured on video and proliferated over social media, prompting extensive backlash against the police department and a federal lawsuit filed by Johnson against the city.The May 30 protest began with demonstrators marching on Interstate 8 in the afternoon, before the group moved to the La Mesa police station. Though the protest began peacefully, confrontation broke out at nightfall, with some protesters throwing objects and officers firing beanbag rounds and tear gas to disperse the crowd.The Chase bank was set on fire, along with another bank and the Randall Lamb and Associates building on Palm Avenue. 2329

Mike Parson said in a radio interview on Friday that he still supports reopening schools in the fall despite the fact that he knows children will contract the novel coronavirus when they return to the classroom.Parson made the comments in a radio interview with Marc Cox, a talk show host on 97.1 FM in St. Louis. Cox asked Parson to respond to local politicians that he felt were "overreacting" to the pandemic, particularly when it came to youth sports."These kids have got to get back to school, they're at the lower risk possible," Parson said. "And if they do get COVID-19, which they will, and they will when they go to school, they're not going to the hospitals. They're not going to sit in doctor's offices. Parson's comments about children in schools begin at about the two-minute mark.The CDC does say that children do not appear to be high risk for COVID-19, and that the vast majority of confirmed cases have appeared in adults. However, children are still able to spread the virus to friends and family members.And while children are often spared from the most serious cases of COVID-19, the CDC reports that the virus has sent dozens of children to the hospital. Currently, the agency's COVID-19 Associated Hospitalization Surveillance Network currently reports that for every 200,000 children aged 5-17, about 1 is sent to the hospital every week. The network doesn't monitor hospitals in Missouri, but if those statistics hold true, between four and five public school students in pre-K through high school would be hospitalized in the state each week. According to Education Week, there are more than 900,000 students in the state.Parson also did not mention teachers, administrators and other school staff members, all of whom could catch the virus from children or other adults in the school.Parson also argued that keeping students out of school could cause more issues than if students were to come back to class."The risk of not putting them back in school — I guarantee it will cause more problems than the virus than we'll ever think creates long-term for our state," Parson said.Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, has said that he feels schools outside of virus hot sports should try and reopen for that very reason. In addition to furthering children's' social and cognitive development, with schools open, more kids will have access to nutritious meals as well as mental and physical health evaluations. However, Fauci has said schools in areas where the virus is rampant need to be careful."We should try as best as possible to keep kids in school," Fauci said. DULZURA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three fires burned in rural East County Wednesday afternoon as Cal Fire worked to extinguish the flames. According to Cal Fire, all three of the fires sparked in the community of Dulzura along Highway 94 between Otay Lakes Road and Freezer Road. Video of the blaze shows traffic in the area backed up for several miles after crews closed Highway 94 between Otay Lakes Road and Barrett Lake Road. Around 5:30 p.m., Cal Fire said crews were able to stop the forward rate of spread of all three fires. In total, all three fires burned slightly less than 32 acres. Sky10 was live over the fire.
