SEYMOUR, Indiana — An 8-year-old boy died after ingesting meth he may have thought was cereal.The boy, Curtis Collman III, was at his dad's home when the drug overdose occurred. PROJECTS EXPECTEDIn Colorado, it means Rocky Mountain National Park will get improved sewage systems; in Montana, Glacier National Park will upgrade their camp grounds; in Arizona, the Grand Canyon will get drinking water pipelines fixed; in the Everglades of Florida, storm-damaged buildings can be repaired; and at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, 100-year-old trail heads will be updated with better parking lots and easier entrances. LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION FUNDApart from improving the maintenance in America's National Parks, the legislation also, for the first, permanently funds the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Some of San Diego's fastest growing companies will add more than 600 new jobs over the next five years.The hiring, however, is starting now. California awarded 15 San Diego companies tax credits in exchange for investing locally and adding jobs. Overall, the jobs will pay an average salary of about ,000.The state launched what's called the California Competes tax credit in 2013 to combat lower cost states, like Texas, from recruiting companies out of California."We need people, we need equipment, we need to improve our facilities, and that's really helping us do that," said Dave Twining, chief operating officer of Planck Aerosystems, which got a 0,000 credit. The company just expanded into a Midway warehouse large enough for a net for drone testing. In exchange for the credit, Planck is committing to add 23 jobs at an average salary of ,000. Twining said the company needs workers that run the gamut, from office administrators to engineers. (KGTV) -- A driver was arrested Monday morning after hitting several parked vehicles and shearing a fire hydrant in Spring Valley, sending water towards nearby homes and a church.According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at around 5:15 a.m. in the 9100 block of Akard Street.CHP officials said the man struck at least two parked vehicles, hit a fire hydrant and then lost control, causing his truck to flip over.The driver crawled out of his truck and tried to run away, but officers captured him a few blocks away.When the truck slammed into the fire hydrant, it caused a geyser that reached up to 40 feet in the air and flooded nearby homes and the Grace Covenant Church.Most of the water damage affected the WOW Christian Preschool at the church. School director Sally Gutierrez said both of the classrooms sustained heavy water damage, as well as the playground areas."The floor, the carpets, it all got pretty wet," said Gutierrez. "There's even water dripping down the walls from upstairs."Water crews were able to shut off the geyser after about 20 minutes.The preschool reopened in May after closing during the coronavirus pandemic. Only 10 students were enrolled, but they had planned to expand to 30 students in the fall to start the new school year."We don't really know how long we'll be closed now," said Gutierrez. "Everything's on hold. The car that crashed, it affected to many of the neighbors, but it affected us as well, and all of our families."The driver, who was placed under arrest, was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries. SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A San Diego County Sheriff’s deputy was injured Monday following a crash in Spring Valley. According to the department, the crash happened near the intersection of Bancroft Drive and Kenwood Drive at 8:23 a.m. The deputy was responding with his lights on to reports of a stolen vehicle when he was involved in a single-vehicle crash. The deputy was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, the department said. The details on what led to the crash wasn’t specified by the department. 538
