BEIJING, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Many countries around the world said the July 5 riot in northwest China is an internal affair of the country, and the Chinese government is handling the incident properly.     A spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, Andrei Popov, said Xinjiang is an inalienable part of China, and the unrest is a purely internal matter of China.     The riot in Urumqi, the capital of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, left 197 people dead and more than 1,680 injured.     Popov also expressed hope that China could soon restore stability in the region by adopting effective measures in accordance with the law.     He said Belarus expresses its deep sympathy to the people who suffered personal injuries or loss of property during the violence.     A spokesman for Pakistan's Foreign Ministry, Abdul Basit, said his country deplores any attempt to hinder China's progress.     "We deplore any such attempt" which tries to impede the progress which has been achieved by China in the context of social harmony, he said in a recent interview with Xinhua.     "We are committed not to allow any element in Pakistan to work against the interests of China because China's interests are Pakistan's interests. We cannot allow any activity that will damage China's interests," Basit said.     Pakistan's Foreign Ministry, in a statement issued shortly after the Urumqi riot, applauded the efforts of the Chinese leadership to promote the concept of harmony both at home, in Asia and the rest of the world.     Turkish Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan said his country supports the principle of resolving the issue within the framework of the territorial integrity of China.     The Turkish Foreign Ministry said the country highly values its relations with China and does not intend to interfere in China's internal affairs.     Thailand's Foreign Ministry said on Thursday the July 5 riot is a domestic issue of China and it believs China is capable of stabilizing the situation and restoring peace and harmony in Xinjiang.     Combodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said: "The Chinese government is taking appropriate measures to handle the issue."     The Foreign Ministry of Laos also issued a statement on the July 5 riot. It said Laos believes the measures the Chinese government has adopted to safeguard social stability are necessary and legitimate, and expressed hope the government could bring peace back to the region at an early date.  

BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang Wednesday called for improved entry-exit inspection and quarantine of swine flu cases, and accelerating research on a diagnostic reagent to test for the virus.     All government departments must make public health a priority and maintain steady social order, Li said during a visit to the Beijing Capital International Airport and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Li visited the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Capital International Airport in Beijing to inspect the operations of swine flu prevention on April 29.Li said China had no confirmed cases of swine flu, but the virus could still spread to China as the outbreak was worsening in some other countries.     Entry-exit authorities must step up inspection and quarantine by conducting strict medical examinations of people traveling from areas with swine flu cases, and sterilize goods and transport thoroughly, to keep the virus from entering China, he said.     Li also urged disease prevention experts at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention to develop a diagnostic reagent for use in testing for the virus as soon as possible.     An effective surveillance and reporting system was the basis for the prevention of swine flu, so that people suspected to be infected could be "located, reported, quarantined and treated as soon as possible," Li said.     He also urged local authorities to increase production of anti-flu medications, protective gauze masks, sterilization drugs, and respiratory machines, and enhance public education on swine flu.     Officials should closely monitor the global situation, and take prompt and comprehensive measures to deal with the virus in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other countries, he said.     Swine flu is suspected of causing the death of 159 people in Mexico. The United States confirmed Wednesday that a 23-month-old child in Texas had died from the virus.

MOSCOW, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday that he is looking forward to meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao next month during the Chinese leader's trip to Russia.     Medvedev, who met with Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo on Friday, said he and Hu will exchange views on major international and regional issues of common concern during their June meeting. TASHKENT, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said on Sunday that China is willing to expand cooperation with Uzbekistan on wide-ranging issues while meeting with Uzbek President Islam Karimov.     "Uzbekistan, as a country with important influence in central Asia, plays a major role in regional affairs, and developing a friendly partnership with Uzbekistan is one of the priorities of China's foreign policy," said Li.     "China is willing to work together with Uzbekistan to constantly solidify the friendship and political trust between the two countries, make efforts to expand pragmatic bilateral cooperation in all fields, and increase exchanges in culture, education, health and sports," he added. BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Finance announced Monday that the country's fiscal revenue in June rose 19.6 percent year on year to 686.75 billion yuan (100.5 billion U.S. dollars).     However, in the first half of this year, fiscal revenue fell 2.4 percent to 3.398 trillion yuan, said the ministry in a statement on its website.     The growth rate last month was 14.8 percentage points higher than the growth rate in May. Fiscal revenue fell 9.9 percent in the first four months this year from a year earlier to 2.05 trillion yuan due to shrinking business profits hit by the global economic slowdown and active fiscal policies including tax cuts to buoy domestic economic growth.     The ministry attributed the revenue rise in June to the stabilization of overall economic performance, growing business profits and the increase in the cigarette tax.     The government announced on June 20 the tax on cigarette cartons costing 70 yuan or more would rise to 56 percent from 45 percent, and the tax on cigarette cartons costing less than 70 yuan would rise from 30 to 36 percent.     Sales tax revenues rose 63.1 percent year on year in June, with business tax revenues edging up 6.4 percent, but the ministry did not specify the figures.     In June, China's fiscal expenditure increased 21.5 percent to 640.56 billion yuan from a year earlier. From January to June, the figure stood at 2.89 trillion yuan, up 26.3 percent from the same period last year.     The government unveiled a 4-trillion-yuan stimulus package in November last year to be spent over the next two years to shore up the world's third largest economy, with 1.18 trillion yuan from the central government.     Fiscal revenue includes taxes as well as administrative fees and other government income, such as fines and income from state-owned assets.
