VISTA (CNS) - A man who fatally beat his cousin in the front yard of an Oceanside home was convicted Thursday of second-degree murder.Joel Cardona, 37, was found guilty for the Aug. 2, 2018, death of Nestor Jurado, 37, following a trial that began last week at the Vista courthouse. A sentencing date has not yet been set, but the second-degree murder conviction means Cardona faces at least 15 years to life in state prison.Cardona was arrested on the morning of Aug. 2 during a tussle with Jurado in front of a home on Arthur Avenue, according to police and prosecutors. (KGTV) -- The San Diego Sheriff's Department is reviewing the actions of several deputies after a witness posted a controversial video on Facebook.The video shows two deputies walking a man in handcuffs just before they slam his head into a fence. Later in the video, they can be seen smacking another man in the head who is already down on the ground in handcuffs.The woman who shared the video on Facebook claims they deputies used excessive force and wants justice for the two men. A Sheriff's spokesman says the video was taken on Monday morning when deputies were responding to a domestic violence call at a Vista apartment complex.When deputies arrived the suspect was wielding a weapon and holding someone against their will, the spokesman said. During the arrest, other parties fought with the deputies. The spokesperson says the department is reviewing the body camera footage and the cell phone video.10News visited the scene of the arrests. (KGTV) - The man who prosecutors believe was the target of a murder for hire came face-to-face Tuesday with those charged: His estranged wife and her gun instructor.Greg Mulvihill described the moments leading up to him being shot, saying he didn't realize he'd been shot right away and at first he thought he felt something in his back even though he could see the sniper in front of him. The North County father described a bitter custody battle in which he was accused of everything from drug use to sexual assault and molestation of their young son.RELATED: Trial begins in Carlsbad murder-for-hire plotMulvihill says he went up a remote trail in Carlsbad on Sept. 1, 2016, out of desperation, fearing his ex-wife, Diana Lovejoy, would reopen their custody battle. He took a friend, a flashlight and a small aluminum baseball bat but he thought he was picking up documents from a private investigator.Instead, as he approached the spot off Rancho Santa Fe Road and Avenida Soledad, he shined his flashlight around and spotted someone dressed in camouflage pointing a long gun right at him.Before he knew what was happening he was hit once in the side, the bullet exiting out his back.In the courtroom Tuesday, his ex-wife and the man accused of firing the gun, her weapons instructor, sat quietly, Lovejoy crying at times and shaking her head at others. Mulvihill was cross-examined Tuesday and the trial will resume Wednesday morning. 1506

Visitors to the Bahamas will no longer have to quarantine for 14 days after the island updated its coronavirus rules over the weekend.On Sunday, the island stated in a press release that anyone who visits must test negative for COVID-19 five days before arriving on the island, apply for a health travel visa, complete a daily questionnaire, and take a rapid antigen test the fifth day of your stay.The antigen test is not required if you are leaving on the fifth day.And you're required to wear a mask and social distance in public places.Beginning Nov. 14, visitors must opt into COVID-19 health insurance when applying for the health travel visas."The cost of the required COVID Health Insurance is included in the Bahamas Health Visa and paid in advance of travel," island officials stated on its FAQ.The island said anyone who presents a test older than five days would not be allowed entry.Prior to the rules change on Sunday, visitors had to quarantine for 14 days upon their arrival as part of its vacation-in-place. 1032
