(KGTV) - Paralympic Triathlete Amy Dixon trains, and lives by a simple motto: No Sight, No Limits.Now, new technology is taken even more of her limits away.Dixon is 98% blind, the result of a rare autoimmune disorder she got in her early 20s.Over the summer, she started using the IrisVision headset, which has helped give her a full field of vision."I can only see my knuckles and part of my fingers. The fingertips and palm are completely missing," Dixon explains when describing her sight. "With the headset, I saw my whole hand for the first time in 22 years!"The IrisVision Headset uses cameras mounted to a virtual reality-style headset. Technology within the headset helps focus the camera's view onto the part of the retina that can still process light. That creates a fuller picture for the wearer."It takes what's in front of you and remaps it on the digital screen inside the headset in a way that you can see," says IrisVision CEO Ammad Khan."I cannot wait to see how this technology will help hundreds of thousands of people around the world," he says.Dixon says it's helping her with the mundane, everyday aspects of training for the Paralympics."Writing sponsors, working on a computer, emails, doing expense reports and progress reports for USA Triathlon; it enables me to do all of that," she says. "That's equally as important as my training."Khan says this will help people with limited sight be able to do things like watch tv, play cards, go to movies, cook, navigate around their house, and all of the other mundane daily activities that people will full sight take for granted.He also says that this could help people stay in jobs longer, even as their eyesight gets worse.The headset is also equipped with Amazon Alexa and several other apps to make life easier.It was developed with the help of Johns Hopkins University and has FDA Approval. Khan says the headset is covered for Veterans under the VA system, and his company is working on getting more insurance carriers to cover it.Dixon is working towards the same goal through her non-profit foundation.Meanwhile, she's also working towards Tokyo in 2020. (KGTV) - A baby python caught on video being snatched from a reptile store in Escondido has been recovered.Late Wednesday afternoon, police told 10news a break in case led them to a home in Escondido, where a woman spotted in surveillance video admitted to taking the snake and turned it over. The theft took place at LLL Reptile last Friday afternoon."Just shocking because of the way she did it," said District Mangaer Joe Alvarez.Video shows her walking around the reptile shop for about ten minutes, before something catches her eye. On the video, she's seen staring down an employee before she appears to slide open the top of a tank and grab something. Another camera shows her walking right past the checkout counter. From the final camera angle, a yellow snake is seen squirming in her purse."Looks like the snake is making one last ditch effort to get away, you see her literally grab the snake and put it in her purse before she walks out," said Alvarez.That snake is a baby yellow-colored, green tree python, about ten inches long. "A lot of guys pour their heart and soul into caring for these animals, and someone comes and just rips it out. It hurts," said Alvarez.Alvarez was concerned about the snake's welfare, because it requires high heat and humidity. The conditions are more important because of his young age, about three months old. Those worries dissipated when police stopped by the shop on Wednesday, snake in hand. Employees tell 10news the staff was "over the moon excited." Police tell 10news the woman was wanted on 5 outstanding warrants, including at least one drug-related warrant. (KGTV) - Surveillance video captured a man in a truck treating an Escondido neighborhood like a dumping ground.In the video, a white truck pulls up in the 800 block of North Citrus Avenue just before 1 p.m.  The driver goes to the back and casually pulls the couch onto the street, before going back to the truck to toss out a piece of carpet. He then drives off."Just makes our neighborhood look bad and ugly, and we don't want that," said Gil Gomez who lives feet from where the couch was dumped.His frustrations growing every time he watches the video, recorded from his Ring camera. That's because the truck appears to be a newer model Ford F-150."If you can afford to buy a brand new truck, you can afford to get rid of this thing properly," said Gomez.Gomez fears this type thing could attract more dumping."It might happen around the corner next time. That is the type of culture we cannot stand for," said Gomez.Gomez posted the video on the Neighbors by Ring app to track the person down and to send a message to would-be dumpers. "Not in our neighborhood. Federal authorities filed a lawsuit against a New Jersey landlord who allegedly demanded sexual favors from low-income tenants in exchange for housing assistance.On Wednesday, the Department of Justice filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against 73-year-old Joseph Centanni, who owns hundreds of rental units in and around Elizabeth, for "violating the Fair Housing Act by subjecting tenants to sexual harassment" since at least 2005.“The Fair Housing Act protects the right of all persons in our nation to rent a home without suffering sexual exploitation at the hands of abusive landlords. Demanding sexual favors from tenants, especially those who are financially vulnerable, is illegal,” said Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband of the Civil Rights Division in a statement. “The Fair Housing Act protects tenants from sexual harassment and retaliation by their landlords, and the Justice Department will hold accountable those who engage in such cruel, depraved, and illegal conduct and will work tirelessly to obtain relief for their victims.”The complaint alleges Centanni demanded that current and prospective tenants provide him with sexual favors in exchange to keep their place or a reduced rate in rent, and threatened to evict anyone who rejected his advances.“No one should ever be forced to provide sexual favors, or otherwise endure sexual harassment, as a condition to keep or obtain housing,” U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said in a statement. “Sexual harassment in housing is illegal under the Fair Housing Act, and we will vigorously enforce this federal law to end this depraved type of behavior.”According to the complaint, one victim said she approached Centanni last year because she was having problems paying her rent. He said he'd help her with rental assistance, and she asked what she needed to do in exchange."He then brought her to an empty apartment," the court documents alleged. "There, he asked her for a massage and exposed himself. He then subjected her to unwanted sexual touching by using his hands to move both of hers to touch his testicles and penis as she said words to the effect of 'no' and 'don’t do that.'" Afterward, Centanni helped the woman apply for rental assistance, the lawsuit claims.Another woman said she went to Centanni last year stating she was having problems finding another place to live after agreeing to move out, the lawsuit alleges.The lawsuit states Centanni then took the woman to an empty storage room, after asking the tenant how badly she wanted to stay in her apartment.“There, Centanni exposed himself and asked for oral sex,” federal prosecutors allege. “Because she felt like she had no choice, the tenant submitted to Centanni’s sexual demand. After this incident, Centanni allowed her to stay in her apartment.”According to the complaint, Centanni participates in the federal Housing Choice Voucher Program (also known as “Section 8”) and receives approximately 2,000 each month in federal voucher payments. 2998

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- An Escondido-based avocado grower is voluntarily recalling avocados sold in bulk due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Henry Avocado Corporation issued the recall Saturday due to positive test results on environmental samples taken during routine inspection of its packaging facility. So far, there are no reports of illness. The recalled products were packaged at Henry Avocado’s packaging facility and distributed to Arizona, California, Florida, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Wisconsin. Customers can identify the recalled fruit by the “Bravocado” stickers. Henry Avocado organic products do not carry the “Bravocado” label on the sticker. Instead those products are labeled “organic” and include “California” on the sticker.All shipments from the facility are subject to the recall. According to the company, avocados imported from Mexico and distributed by Henry Avocado are not part of the recall. The company said in a news release that it’s contacting all affected customers to make sure the products are removed from shelves. Anyone who purchased the recalled product are urged to discard or return the items for a full refund.
