But there are still some pandemic-proof activities to enjoy this month.This year, families are tasked more than ever with thinking outside the traditional holiday box to find some fun. While the pandemic has strained those efforts, virtual experiences, drive-thru events, and charity can help keep the season bright:Enjoy holiday light displays: The easiest way to enjoy the holidays is something many families do every year. Families can enjoy looking at the hard work by their neighbors to dress up some seasonal cheer, while staying safe and socially distanced in their vehicles. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection Tuesday arrested a woman they say was trying to smuggle more than 230 pounds of drugs into the U.S. with her five children in a van.Officers say the incident happened on April 9 just after noon at the Otay Mesa port of entry.During an inspection of the family’s Honda Odyssey, authorities found anomalies in the spare tire well, quarter panels, doors and gas tank.RELATED: Teens targeted to smuggle Fentanyl across US-MexicoAfter inspecting the vehicle, officers found 206 packages containing methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin.The estimated street value of the drugs is more than million, according to CBP.“CBP has seen many forms of drug smuggling through the years,” said Pete Flores, director of field operations for CBP in San Diego. “The hardest ones are when adults include their children in attempted smuggling schemes.”RELATED: Border Patrol agent arrested in North San Diego County on drug, weapons chargesThe woman was arrested and taken to the Los Colinas Women’s detention center. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - What looks like a fire zone on a busy Ocean Beach street is a fraud, the City of San Diego confirmed to 10News Wednesday. The red curb at Abbott Street and Santa Monica Avenue got the attention of neighbors. Diana Webster has lived in the community for 66 years and said people have been getting active with spray paint. “On Friday, five scooters were parked in there and on Saturday, somebody had painted black where all the scooters should be parked. Sounds like there is some suspicious activity with spray cans, I guess so,” Webster said. “I think it’s pretty crazy someone got away with it,” said a neighbor identified as Rodrigo. The city said illegal red curbing happens regularly in parking-dense areas and the best way to take care of it is to report it through their Get It Done app. If the paint looks different than a typical red curb, it’s likely illegal, the city said. 910

San Diego (KGTV)- After receiving a failing grade by the American Lung Association, the County of San Diego is rolling out some new tools to fight air pollution. In port-side communities like Sherman Heights, Logan Heights and Barrio Logan, the rates for Asthma are the highest in the state. This morning county leaders unveiled its new innovative monitors and cars. “This has never been done before,” says Aclima’s Chief Scientist, Melissa Lunden. For the past three months, two air quality cars have been driven around the county for 24 hours at a time collecting samples of air pollutants. “You get a map, a street by street map, of what the air pollution is and what the air pollutants are on those particular streets,” says Lunden. “That allows you to really locate in that region an area of concern.”Stationary monitors will also be set up in areas like Barrio Logan, Sherman Heights, and Logan Heights. Officials will be able to monitor what’s being inhaled by the people who live in these communities. “What we expect to happen is we’re going to find elevated levels of pollution at the street level that we didn’t see with our regional monitors,” says Assistant Director of the Air Pollution Control District, John Adams. With each monitor, the air is pulled into an inlet over 24 hours. The filter is then taken out and tested in a lab. The Air Pollution Control District has already placed monitors along Interstate 15 in Carmel Mountain and Interstate 5 in San Isidro. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With over 10,000 employees worldwide, software company Teradata is making San Diego its global headquarters.They're growing the current Rancho Bernardo office by 65,000 sq/ft, equipping it with amenities designed to attract high-tech talent.The upgraded campus features a fitness center, yoga/pilates room, spin studio, fresh-ground coffee machines, new whiteboards, and play spaces featuring games like shuffle board and foosball.In the headquarters unveiling Monday, executives also revealed the company's new branding and logo.They plan to work with partners like UC San Diego to recruit top talent to the company.Teradata was previously headquartered in Dayton, OH, employees there were offered relocation packages.Teradata plans to hire 200 more employees in the coming months, bringing its San Diego workforce total to over 1,000. 863
