HOUSTON, Texas – Early Friday, NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Christina Koch will conduct the first all-female spacewalk outside of the International Space Station. The spacewalk will begin at 7:50 a.m. ET and last for about five or six hours.In order to tell the astronauts apart, Koch's helmet camera views will bear the number 18 and Meir's will be number 11. For these high school seniors, the pool has become their life. So much so, the twin brothers, Cade and Zachary Griffith, both just committed to play water polo in college.The brothers say their decision on where to go to school was tough and overwhelming, but they both decided on Austin College, in Sherman, Texas. “So lucky; we got lucky on that, says the twin’s mom, Lisa Griffith. Their choice was unexpected, because they'd never heard of Austin College before hiring the college athlete recruiting company NCSA. NCSA recruiters knew of Austin College’s plan to start a new water polo program this fall and that they were in need of team members. Lisa Strasman, president and COO of NCSA, and her team help student-athletes navigate the recruitment process. “A lot of kids think the only schools that offer their sport are those they see on ESPN,” Strasman says. “Reality [is] there's so many college opportunities across the country.” NCSA and other companies like it take the student's GPA, sport and education interests and pour through thousands of schools to find the ones that may be a good fit. They then make videos introducing student-athletes to coaches. “People think that college coaches will just discover them. In most cases, that's not reality,” Strasman says. “It's very important that student athletes are proactive."The Griffith's paid ,000 for each of their sons, but NCSA helps families for free, if their parents qualify as low-income. Many of NCSA’s employees are former athletes or college coaches. Online reviews about athlete recruitment companies are mixed. Some families say they have successfully navigated the recruitment process themselves. "I think everybody's situation is different. For us, it was definitely an investment," says Lisa Griffith. But in the past year, she started rationing one of her insulin prescriptions because it became too expensive.“We are dying, we are suffering complications when we have to ration or when we can't afford to fill our prescriptions and take it for the amount that prescribed to us,” Devore said. “It's unacceptable.Doctors warn against rationing meds because it can lead to health problems — and even death.“My doctor has said I will continue to stay healthy as long as I can afford to take care of myself at the level I have been all these years,” Devore said. “But with prices this high it's likely I can't. No one should have to make these kinds of decisions.”A new JAMA study found 40 of 49 top name-brand prescription drugs have had skyrocketing prices in the last six years. On average, the cost of the drugs jumped 76 percent.Most of the drugs continue to increase in price once and even twice per year.The JAMA report noted that even competition does not keep prices from rising. Popular diabetes drugs saw large price increases despite doctors being able to prescribe them interchangeably.“There has to be change. Otherwise more people will die needlessly,” Devore said.Both Congress and the Trump White House have promised to find ways to lower costs of drugs, and several bills are in the works.
