(KGTV) -- The Encinitas teenager bitten by a great white shark is thanking all who saved him and those who continue to support his recovery.It was nearly two months ago when 13-year-old Keane Webre-Hayes was attacked while lobster diving at Beacon's Beach.Webre-Hayes sustained substantial damage to his left torso and face. His humorous was broken, ball joint broke in half, and rotator cuff torn apart in several places. He also lost a significant amount of his deltoid and lat muscles.The 13-year-old underwent hours of surgeries and got 1,000 stitches."I feel really thankful to have my arm, to be alive, and I'm thankful to probably in the future help other people," said Webre-Hayes.He's now considering a career in lifeguarding. Those who helped him are on a long list of people he wants to thank.“The people that towed me in from the kayak, the first responders, the pilot, the doctors, the nurses, all the companies that have given me things, it's motivation to get back out there and do what I love, like surfing and skateboarding," said Webre-Hayes.His mother, Ellie Hayes, says she is grateful for the outpouring of support and financial donations which will help with ongoing medical expenses."It’s one of the ultimate tests, and I know that there’s a reason and meaning, and there’s good that we can do with it," said Ellie. "We don’t know what that is right now, we’re going through it day by day, but we're  open and ready to make sure we spread the word of courage and strength."Webre-Hayes will continue physical therapy and could have additional surgeries in the future. 1620

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - Plans are underway to reinvigorate Escondido's historic downtown, with new businesses and plans to make the area more pedestrian friendly. One of the new ventures is the first-of-its-kind. "Escondido now has really started to invest a lot of time, a lot of effort, and they're putting a lot of money into the downtown district," said Nick Corona, a nationally recognized homebrewer who lives in San Marcos.When Corona started homebrewing in 2012, the dream was always to start a brewery, which he named Five Suits Brewing. Now that dream is coming true in a way he couldn't have envisioned back then. "We're looking to hopefully become a little bit more of a draw for Escondido."The plan is to house four different businesses under one roof, three of which are craft beverage manufacturers: beer, gin, and mead.The gin distillery is Stoke Distilling Co. and the meadery is Good Omen. "Nobody else in California and I don't even think in the U.S., has a storefront place that you can go to that has a brewery, a winery, and a distillery, with a restaurant all in the same location," said Brian LaMere, Owner of Good Omen.The owners of Carlsbad's Notorious Burgers will be supplying the food, which will consist of craft tacos and Mexican street food. The project is still waiting on approval from the alcohol and beverage agencies, but Corona says they've identified a 14,000 sq/ft property on Grand Ave. "It will be a destination, there's no doubt about it," said Corona. As far as making downtown more friendly to pedestrians, city planners say there are plans to widen the sidewalks, create more parking, and add art. ESCONDIDO (CNS) - A Pauma Valley man accused of ambushing three San Diego County sheriff's deputies at his home in a rural area near Casino Pauma, sparking a nearly six-hour standoff in which he suffered a gunshot wound, was charged today with three counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm on a peace officer.Arraignment for 28-year-old Jose Nieto at Palomar Medical Center was postponed until Jan. 11 because he was deemed medically unfit for the proceeding while being treated for the gunshot wound he sustained during last Thursday's standoff.The complaint against Nieto includes allegations of personal use and discharge of a firearm. He faces 33 years and eight months in prison if convicted, said Deputy District Attorney Michael Runyon.The standoff began around 4:15 p.m. on Dec. 20, when deputies Cory Crawford, Jared Muli, and John Avedesian went to a home in the 156-00 block of Adams Drive in response to a a 911 call from a man who said "he needed help and didn't feel safe in his home."As the three deputies approached the front door of the home, they were met with gunfire, said sheriff's Lt. Rich Williams.The deputies returned fire, established a perimeter around the home and called for backup, including a SWAT team. Nearby residents were evacuated from their homes and surrounding streets were shut down. The deputies were not injured.Authorities spend hours trying to establish communication with the gunman, but when that was unsuccessful, the SWAT team entered the home about 10 p.m. and found Nieto inside with a gunshot wound to his lower body, Williams said. 1598

FAIRFIELD, Calif. -- The parents of 10 children rescued from what authorities call years-long abuse are both in jail after their mother was arrested Wednesday.Ina Rogers, 31, was charged with nine counts of felony child abuse. Prosecutors say she caused the children to be in a situation that was likely to produce great bodily injury and death.Her husband, Jonathan Allen, is facing charges that include torture and felony child abuse.
