Arlington National Cemetery is a shrine that honors our military.But on this Memorial Day, it’s facing a dilemma. It's running out of room, and is now considering restricting who can be buried there.“Arlington National Cemetery is just so special. Around here we say every day is Memorial Day,” said Karen Durham-Aguilera, the executive director of Army National Military Cemeteries.  “Without a change, every veteran who served in a Gulf War conflict, that's Iraq, Afghanistan and all the other conflicts we've been in since then, will not have the honor of coming here, even if they're medal of honor recipients."The cemetery holds more than 7,000 burials a year, or about 30 a day.With aging veterans and on-going conflicts, the cemetery is running out room and, if nothing changes, they'll run out of space in the next twenty years or so. Unable to expand much more, the cemetery is now looking at putting new restrictions on who can be buried there.On its website, the cemetery is now taking a survey asking the public for input on which veterans should get priority. For example: those killed in action, retired veterans, or those who received high honors, like a Purple Heart or Medal of Valor.“Anybody can take it. It's very narrowly focused, saying what do people want us to do." Said Durham-Aguilera.With your help, Arlington National Cemetery wants to make sure it's ready and able to honor the next generation.  “It's not just for that current generation of gulf war and beyond veterans, but that five-year-old who one day is going to raise his or her hand and say I want to serve this nation. An 8-day-old infant was mauled to death by the family's dog on Wednesday in Lee County, Virginia, the county's sheriff confirmed to WJHL-TV. The infant girl was taken to three different hospitals before being pronounced dead at a hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee. The infant reportedly suffered traumatic injuries to her upper body. The dog is currently in the care of animal control. The county's sheriff office and social service department are both investigating Wednesday's incident. The girl has two other siblings.  554

An Oregon man was arrested last week and faces multiple criminal charges after attempting to destroy a McDonald's location's "Golden Arches" after he was refused an order of 30 double cheeseburgers. The News-Review first reported the March 17 incident, which took place in Sutherlin, Oregon. Jedediah Ezekiel Fulton was charged with suspicion of second-degree disorderly conduct, second-degree criminal trespass, second-degree criminal mischief and harassment, the News-Review reported. The incident became so scary, a witness inside the McDonald's pulled out a gun out of fear. Fulton allegedly became irate after McDonald's employees refused to fulfill his order of 30 double cheeseburgers. After being refused the order, Fulton allegedly tore down a McDonald's banner and attempted to destroy the location's Golden Arches. Why he was refused the order in the first place is unknown.  934

An Iowa couple and their two children died from inhaling toxic gas while vacationing in Mexico, local authorities said.The bodies of Kevin Wayne Sharp; his wife, Amy Marie Sharp; their son, Sterling, 12; and daughter Adrianna, 7, were discovered Friday at a rental condominium in the beach town of Tulum.The family had been dead for about 36 to 48 hours, the Quintana Roo prosecutor's office said Saturday. Autopsies showed they suffocated after inhaling toxic gases, but it's unclear what type of gas led to their deaths, the prosecutor's office added.There were no signs of foul play or suicide, officials said.Investigators ruled out a possible robbery because they did not see evidence of a disturbance inside the condo.Photos released by Mexican officials show crews and firefighters wearing masks while checking a gas stove in the condo.They performed "physical inspection of the room's gas installation" and are expected to release a technical report at a later date.Jana Weland, a relative, told CNN the family arrived in Tulum on March 15. They were staying in a rental house they found through a vacation rental company. The last contact the family had with the Sharps was a picture the son posted on Snapchat of his feet by the water that day, Weland said.The Sharps were supposed to return from their vacation Wednesday, Weland said. Kevin Sharp, who owns a beer distribution company, failed to check in with his employees that morning as planned, which was unlike him, Weland said.Then the family failed to attend a basketball game Wednesday night in Danville, Illinois -- a game Weland said the family was looking forward to. As a primary care doctor at Vanderbilt University, Dr. John Scott can understand why people were initially delaying preventative care back in the spring, but now, many of the patients he’s seeing are sicker, having delayed routine care for months.“We’re going to have to pay that bill later, and the cost is going to be much greater,” he said.What worries Dr. Scott the most is the 50 percent drop-off in cancer screenings across the country. With Americans avoiding the doctor, they’re putting off preventative screenings for breast cancer, colon cancer and cervical cancer. Diseases that have a much higher rate of being cured when caught early.“So, the impact of that is significant when you think about the benefit of catching cancer at an early stage,” Dr. Scott added.Nearly one-third of Americans have put off healthcare during COVID-19, which is why physicians nationwide are now urging people to schedule that regular checkup sooner rather than later. According to the CDC, 40 percent of Americans are also struggling with mental health issues and depression right now, something most doctors screen for during regular checkups.“Healthcare is a marathon and you want to put the finish line as far out as possible, so if we start skipping steps, then we aren’t going to get to the finish line we want,” Dr. Scott warned.And since it could be months or even years before the pandemic is over, family physicians across the country are urging people to at least consider making that a trip to the doctor.“It’s safe to return. It’s safer to return than not, when we look at these long-term issues. There is medical care that needs to occur,” Dr. Scott added. 1670
