Ohio and Michigan. Two states with intense rivalries, however when you visit, you can't help but think how much they are the same. With a combined 34 electoral college votes, both are swing states that will decide this election. Both have experienced economic hardship in recent decades and both still rely on the auto industry for jobs. Ahead of the first debate in nearby Cleveland, what are the candidates doing for the auto worker?UNION DEBATE"I am the president of UAW Local 14," Tony Toddy proudly says from his office in Toledo. Toddy, who has been with the UAW for years, recently took over the post. "We like Joe because we know Joe," Toddy says, speaking of the UAW endorsement of Joe Biden. Toddy believes Biden would listen to unions more if elected president. Toddy does not like the new trade agreement, USMCA, which President Donald Trump signed into law earlier this year. "It’s just NAFTA 2.0. Where are the jobs?" Toddy said. But Trump supporters say wait a minute. "I've worked for Ford Motor Company for 24 years," Terry Bowman, who serves as co-chair of the Michigan Republican Party, said. "The American worker deserves four more years of a Trump presidency," Bowman said. Bowman said while union leadership maybe backing Biden, many on the assembly line are backing Trump. Bowman says workers like Trump's tough tough talk and believe his new trade deal is better than the alternative. ON THE ISSUESSo how do the candidates want to help the auto industry? Biden wants to shift 300,000 government cars from gas to electric, believing government investments would generate 1 million new jobs. Trump says his new USMCA trade deal will create 100,000 new jobs and that his rollback of environmental regulations will result in cheaper cars. At Inside the Five Brewery near the Michigan/Ohio line, patrons are divided heading into the debate. "I am for Biden," Marge Mizer, said. "I like an upfront person that’s going to tell me the truth," Mizer said. Meanwhile David Bartlett says he wants Trump to send a message. "I want to see President Trump destroy Joe Biden in the debate," Bartlett said. 2123

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Woven into the fabric of Oceanside is a thriving military community."They're like family to us, they participate in our events, they patronize our business, they attend our churches, and many live in our community," says Scott Ashton, CEO of the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce.Camp Pendleton employs roughly 49,000 military personnel, 40,000 of which are Marines. But the facility sees an average daytime population of 70,000 employees, military family members, and visitors, according to SANDAG.In the region as a whole, the San Diego Military Advisory Council (SDMAC) reported that in 2019, the military was responsible for over billion in direct spending, which resulted in a Gross Regional Product of over billion and over 354,000 jobs. One place you're almost always guaranteed to find a Marine is Knuckleheads Barbershop."In Oceanside, our bread and butter is servicing the Marine Corps, servicing the military," said Patrick Llamas, a Marine Corps veteran and barber at Knuckleheads. Owner Sara Llanes estimates about 80 percent of their business relies on the military. "It's fun to work with the military, I think they're great, and they're great customers," said Llanes. Gunnery Sgt. Lukas Atwell is stationed at Camp Pendleton. "The little conveniences that are available in life, Farmers Markets, entertainment, all of the different things you can do in Southern California, they're outside the gates, and we definitely need those services," said Atwell. The city also has many veteran-owned businesses, over 100, according to the American Legion."The military is just an incredibly important part of our community here in Oceanside," said Ashton. 1702

One person has died and 16 others have become ill from a salmonella outbreak linked to kosher chicken, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday.Eight people have been hospitalized, including the person who died.Illnesses were reported in Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. The death was reported in New York.According to the CDC, the agency began an outbreak investigation in June after several cases were reported in New York among people who said they had consumed kosher chicken."In interviews, ill people reported eating kosher chicken, and when asked about the specific brand eaten, several people reported Empire Kosher brand. The outbreak strain was also identified in samples of raw chicken collected from two facilities, including one facility that processes Empire Kosher brand chicken," the CDC said in its announcement. However, the agency is not telling consumers to avoid eating kosher chicken or Empire brand chicken. Rather, they should follow safe food preparation practices including washing hands before and after touching raw chicken and washing utensils, cutting boards and counters where raw chicken was prepared.Consumers should also cook chicken thoroughly, making sure the inside temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the temperature recommended to kill germs that cause illness such as salmonella.Salmonella illness usually begins between 12 and 72 hours after consuming the bacteria. Symptoms can include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps and can last four to seven days. The earliest illness linked to this outbreak began September 25, and the most recent case began June 4.Severe illness may require hospitalization and treatment with antibiotics. Those most at risk for severe illness and complications are children younger than 5 and adults over 65, as well as people with compromised immune systems. The youngest patient in this outbreak is younger than 1 year old, and the oldest is 76.The US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert "out of an abundance of caution," the agency said."FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers' freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to properly handle, prepare, and cook these raw chicken products."The CDC and the USDA are working with state health officials on the investigation.Kosher food is prepared under supervision to ensure that the dietary laws followed by observant Jews are adhered to. This includes how kosher animals are slaughtered and processed. 2585
