BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao have ordered that supplies for the summer harvest be guaranteed amid reports of shortages in some areas.     Following their order, the State Council has asked local governments and related enterprises to prioritize supplies such as diesel, the fuel for farm vehicles, to take advantage of the best time for the ongoing wheat harvest.     Tight supplies of diesel were reported in some areas since the country began to reap the wheat crop in May as refiners experienced losses resulting from domestic prices that were kept below the spiraling international prices. It also warned related departments to impose tighter supervision over market order to cap prices.     It said more specific measures, such as providing exclusive supply channels for diesel-powered farming vehicles, handing out special filling cards for farming vehicles and direct diesel delivery to farmers, would also be implemented. He also visited Daqing, China's largest oil production base and Harbin, the provincial capital.     Local governments should build more public cultural facilities, he said.     He urged the province to deepen its cultural restructuring, support multi-talented professionals and develop cultural products with brand names that were recognized at home and abroad.     In Daqing, Li also visited the memorial to Iron Man Wang Jinxi, an oil worker who devoted his life to the development of the petroleum industry.     Daqing, a city built on the vast oil field, is known for the "Daqing Red Flag", a model set for all industries in the country by late leader Mao Zedong.

BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- China would deepen economic and trade cooperation and step up strategic and mutually beneficial relations with Japan, Chinese President Hu Jintao said on Sunday.     "China hopes the two sides would work together to enhance economic and trade cooperation, aiming at realizing mutual benefit and development," Hu told members of a delegation from the Japan-China Association on Economy and Trade (JCAET).     JCAET honorary president Fujio Mitarai and president Fujio Cho congratulated China on the success of the Olympics and Paralympic Games, and expressed willingness to push forward bilateral ties.     Hu expressed gratitude for Japanese aid after the Sichuan earthquake and for supporting the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics, praising the JCAET for "important contributions to the improvement and development of bilateral ties". BEIJING, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao and other Chinese leaders including top legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao on Tuesday visited an exhibition which pays tribute to victims of the May earthquake in Sichuan Province and the nation's concerted efforts to assist the disaster-stricken areas.     Photos and videos showing the aftermath of the catastrophic earthquake, as well as items that were used to rescue victims drew attentions of the leaders.     They were also briefed on how the people from all walks of life had made donations and contributions to help the earthquake-stricken areas recover from the country's worst disaster in the past 30 years. Chinese President Hu Jintao visits an exhibition featuring the rescue work on the May 12 earthquake that hit southwest China's Sichuan Province, in Beijing, capital of China, Oct. 7, 2008    Carrying on the great spirit displayed in the quake rescue and relief efforts, the nation would be able to overcome all difficulties on its way of development, Hu said during his visit.     State and Communist Party leaders Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun, XiJinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang also visited the exhibition at the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution in Beijing.     The exhibition, which featured pictures and objects collected in the quake, aimed to serve as a lively lesson to promote patriotism and the selfless spirit displayed in the quake-relief work.     It has received more than 300,000 visitors since it was opened on Sept. 20.     The exhibition was jointly sponsored by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the National Development and Reform Commission and the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army.     On May 12, a quake measuring 8.0 on the Richter Scale struck Wenchuan County in the southwestern Sichuan Province. The quake, which has left more than 80,000 dead or missing, was the deadliest and strongest tremor to hit China since the 1976 Tangshan earthquake.
