SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Homeowners in Chula Vista's Eastlake III Community Association are fighting back against proposed parking updates for the HOA. If passed neighbors would be required to park their cars in the garage before parking in their driveway or on the street.The Board of Directors distributed proposed updates to the Community Association Handbook for a homeowner review and comment; and will vote on Tuesday, August 20.Among the proposed changes:Street parking is permitted only after all garage spaces, and driveway spaces, are utilized to its maximum designed capacityThe Association's management company is permitted to perform a garage inspection of a residence to ensure compliance with the Association's governing documentsHomeowner Jose Esquer believes an inspection would be an invasion of people's property."They seem to want the right to inspect your garage, and that's private property. What I have in my garage shouldn't be anybody's business, but whoever is inside my house. I have a problem with them trying to police what we do once inside our house," said Esquer. Becky Niemiec already parks her car in the garage but still believes the changes would be an overstep. "We don't have attics, we don't have basements, we have no storage, people should be able to use their garage however they want to," said Niemiec.Niemiec says the issue has drawn a lot of debate on Nextdoor. She says while some argue the changes could help beautify the neighborhood, she believes that group is in the minority. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Friday, the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA) issued an apology to the LGBTQ community for recognizing homosexuality as a mental disorder for decades.The apology comes during pride month and on the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising in New York City.“Regrettably some of that era’s understanding of homosexuality and gender identity can be attributed to the American psychoanalytic establishment,” said APsaA president, Dr. Lee Jaffe in a statement. “It is long past time to recognize and apologize for our role in the discrimination and trauma caused by our profession.”At the kick off of APsaA’s 109th Annual Meeting at the San Diego Intercontinental Hotel, Jaffe spoke to a room filled with psychoanalysts saying in part, “For many years we viewed homosexuality as an illness, and we denied opportunities for learning in our training programs to LGBTQ professionals unless they concealed their sexuality. Our views led to discrimination both internally and in society at large.”Over the last several decades, APsaA has pushed for LGBTQ equality, even becoming the first major mental health organization to support marriage equality. The group has also lobbied to end conversion therapy and to lift the transgender military ban.“While APsaA is now proud to be advocating for sexual and gender diversity, we all know that hearing the words ‘we are sorry’ is important to healing past trauma,” said Jaffe.Dr. Justin Shubert who is co-chair on APsaA’s Committee on Gender and Sexuality was in attendance of the annual meeting and says he hopes the words Friday are a step in the right direction.“It’s just a few words but they really mean a lot I think,” said Shubert. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - From searching for jobs online to interviewing virtually, even working online, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way some people get and do their job."It definitely adds another element to do interviews online," said Alex McNair.McNair applied for her new job just as the pandemic hit.For everyone's safety, she and her prospective employer moved the interview from a traditional setting to a virtual one."Lytx was very forthcoming about health and safety and wanting to make sure everyone is taken care of," McNair said. "At that point, we transitioned online, and I think at that point it worked out really well for everyone."McNair got the job.She's a manager in customer support operations at Lytx, a fleet management solutions company. McNair now manages a team of people virtually."For me, of course, I want to see the office.
