"Our exchanges and cooperation in all fields have been growing steadily and exchanges at the top and other levels have increased, " Lan noted.He said that China stands ready to work with Canada, with a strategic and long-term perspective, to seize the opportunity brought by the 40th anniversary to review the past and plan for the future, and jointly forge an even better future.On the same occasion, Canadian Speaker of the Senate Noel Kinsella said it is encouraging to see the two countries continuing to work together in a constructive and cooperative manner."The fact that we were able to put aside our differences at the height of the Cold War and work together for a better future makes me believe that our partnership can withstand the most difficult challenges that might come our way," he said.The Speaker also praised the hard-working Chinese immigrants who endured difficult conditions long before the two countries established diplomatic ties, as they helped build the Canadian Pacific Railway, which played a critical role in history.On the eve of the concert, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper also sent a greeting message, saying that the wonderful evening of beautiful music was a great opportunity to share Chinese culture with Canadians as more than a billion people around the world welcomed the Year of the Tiger."It is a time of great expectations and an occasion to recognize the significant contributions of Chinese Canadians," Harper added.Established in 1957, the CBCO has performed at Konzerthaus Berlin, Lincoln Center, John F. Kennedy Center and Moscow Tchaikovsky Concert Hall over the past five decades. Its world- class Chinese New Year Concert has also become a classic event at the Golden Hall of Vienna since 2003. This is the Orchestra's first visit to Canada. 

MOSCOW, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Russia and China have agreed to further tap cooperation potential so as to boost economic and trade ties despite the impact of the global economic crisis.The agreement was reached during a meeting on Thursday between Russian Minister of Regional Development Viktor Basargin and Chinese Ambassador to Russia Li Hui on bilateral economic and trade ties, especially cross-border and regional cooperation.Basargin and Li agreed that the global economic crisis had a negative impact on bilateral economic cooperation, citing a sharp decline in two-way trade.However, they believed that the foundation for bilateral cooperation remained solid. In particular, bilateral investment and economic cooperation have gained strong momentum, and cooperation in such areas as energy, nuclear technology and high-tech have been strengthened.During the meeting, they also said that cross-border and regional cooperation had become an increasingly important part of the China-Russia strategic partnership of cooperation, and played a key role in facilitating regional development and improving the two peoples' welfare.An outline of regional cooperation between Northeast China and the Russian Far East Area and Eastern Siberia, approved by leaders of both countries in 2009, served as guidelines for deepening bilateral cooperation, they said, adding that both sides would cooperate closely and earnestly implement the document in a bid to achieve new accomplishments.They also discussed some specific issues related to cross-border and regional cooperation.

BEIJING, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu told Chinese rescuers in Haiti via phone Friday night to make all-out efforts to save the eight buried Chinese policemen after they were located. BEIJING, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Senior officials of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Monday urged Party organs and governments at all levels to prioritize talented individuals as the top resource for social and economic development.It was revealed in a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, which was presided over by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, Hu Jintao.According to a statement issued by the meeting, members of the Political Bureau deliberated the mid- and long-term plan for national talent development (2010-2020), saying that a more open policy for introducing and cultivating talents should be carried out.The Party should improve its leadership of talent management to cultivate talents, while all provincial-level governments and governmental departments in charge of important industries should also work out corresponding talent development plans, said the statement.During the meeting, members of the Political Bureau also discussed a government work draft report which will be submitted by the State Council to the top legislature's annual session next month.Under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee and with joint efforts by the country's people of all ethnic groups, China made "hard-won" achievements against the backdrop of the global economic downturn and international financial crisis in 2009, the statement said.The State Council and local governments at all levels had performed their duties well and done a lot to overcome the difficulties, it said.The year of 2010 will be vital to continue dealing with the impact of the global downturn and keeping steady economic growth as well as to transform the mode of economic development.The meeting also called for more efforts to fulfill the country's 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010), the statement said.
