FALLBROOK, Calif. (CNS) - A fire that broke out at a Fallbrook home Friday morning spread to surrounding vegetation, but firefighters halted the blaze at a quarter-acre.The blaze was reported just before 4:45 a.m. at an estimated 3,000-square-foot house in the 40300 block of Sandia Creek Drive, San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Pat McEvoy said.North County Fire Protection District crews responded and found the structure fully engulfed, Cal Fire Capt. Thomas Shoots said. Cal Fire crews were called in once the flames spread to the vegetation surrounding the home.By 5:40 a.m., firefighters had halted the spread of the fire at a quarter-acre, Shoots said. Crews were expected to remain on scene for at least two hours to mop up any hot spots.Deputies and neighbors helped evacuate about 50 horses from the property, McEvoy said. (KGTV) - A North County school district said it was hacked last week, forcing them to shut down parts of their network during registration week.The San Dieguito Union High School District sent out an email to parents on Thursday alerting them to “an attempted malware attack” on August 9.While they called it “attempted,” Superintendent Robert Haley confirmed to 10News that district IT employees detected malware implanted in the district’s system. However, Haley assured parents that no data had been viewed or taken from their network.As of Thursday, the parent portal remained shut down, which is where parents were supposed to input information for the start of the school year.In the email to parents, Haley said the portal would remain unavailable through the weekend. They have extended the deadline for parents to submit the required information.“SDUHSD is sorry for the inconvenience, however, protecting student and staff privacy is of the utmost importance,” wrote Haley. 1009

(KGTV/CNS) - CHP officers are investigating a crash in Escondido that left a driver with burns to about 80 percent of his body Wednesday morning.The 22-year-old driver, who police believe is a current or former Marine, hit a tree at Bear Valley Pkwy north of Eldorado Dr. at 2:45 a.m.The vehicle caught fire but emergency crews put out the flames. Neighbors who heard the crash also helped the driver.CHP officers initially believed the driver was dead inside the vehicle but found him alive when they put out the flames.The man was taken to UCSD Medical Center with burns and other severe injuries.The investigation closed Bear Valley Pkwy from Bear Valley Rd. to SR-78 during the morning commute.  750

Faculty members at Lehigh University have voted overwhelmingly in favor of rescinding President Donald Trump's honorary degree.Trump was presented with the honorary degree in 1988, when he was chosen by the graduating class as commencement speaker. It was standard for all commencement speakers to be given honorary diplomas at that time, Lehigh spokesperson Lori Friedman told CNN.More than 80% of voting-eligible faculty affirmed the?motion asking that the Pennsylvania college's Board of Trustees revoke the honor. Only 14% voted against the motion. It will now be conveyed to the board, according to Faculty Steering Committee Chair Doug Mahoney.Dr. Michael Raposa, who helped to draft the motion, told CNN that it was intended to reflect that faculty members "don't want Lehigh to be identified with the kind of sexist, racist, and Islamophobic utterances" he says the President has made.
