Attorney General Jeff Sessions' private attorney said Wednesday that the attorney general is not under investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller's office for perjury related to statements made at his confirmation hearing.In response to?an ABC News report saying that now-dismissed FBI official Andrew McCabe had authorized an investigation into whether Sessions lied to Congress about his contacts with a top Russian diplomat, attorney Chuck Cooper said Mueller's office has informed him that Sessions is not being investigated over his testimony."The special counsel's office has informed me that after interviewing the Attorney General and conducting additional investigation, the Attorney General is not under investigation for false statements or perjury in his confirmation hearing testimony and related written submissions to Congress," Cooper said in a statement to CNN.The special counsel's office declined to comment.A source close to Sessions said he was not aware of any investigation into possible perjury when McCabe was fired last week.CNN reported in January that Sessions was questioned for several hours by Mueller's team as part of the investigation into Russian election meddling and any possible collusion with President Donald Trump's team. A source familiar with the matter told CNN that Cooper was unaware of any possible perjury investigation related to Sessions before it was revealed by the ABC report.Sessions has repeatedly said that he didn't mislead senators or lie under oath.Vermont Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy and then-Minnesota Democratic Sen. Al Franken wrote to then-FBI Director James Comey last March asking the FBI to investigate Sessions' testimony. The ABC report said McCabe opened the probe after the letter.A representative for McCabe declined to comment on the ABC story, which said top lawmakers of both parties were informed about the probe in a private briefing from McCabe in May, where Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein also attended.A spokesman for Leahy said Wednesday that the senator was "not otherwise made aware of an investigation" into Sessions for perjury and that the FBI had declined to "confirm or deny the existence of an investigation" as of May 2017.Sessions confirmed last year that he met with Sergey Kislyak, the former Russian ambassador to the US, on two occasions: once on the sidelines of the Republican National Convention in July 2016, and then in his office in September 2016, when Sessions was a member of the Senate Armed Services committee.Sessions did not, however, mention either meeting during his confirmation hearing last January -- a fateful choice that has cast a long shadow over his tenure at the Justice Department.The critical exchange took place in January 2017, when Franken read from a CNN story about the dossier on Trump and Russia, and asked Sessions: "If there was any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of this (2016) campaign, what would you do?"Sessions responded: "I'm not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians."He further replied, "no," when asked whether he had been "in contact with anyone connected to any part of the Russian government about the 2016 election, either before or after Election Day" in his Senate questionnaire.For over a year, the attorney general has faced scrutiny from lawmakers on Capitol Hill about those portions of his testimony.After his confirmation hearing, The Washington Post reported on Sessions' undisclosed meetings with Kislyak, prompting members of Congress to call for Sessions to resign or step aside from overseeing the FBI's investigation into potential coordination between Russian officials and the Trump campaign.Kislyak, a career diplomat, was considered to be one of Russia's top spies and spy-recruiters in Washington, according to current and former senior US government officials -- though Russian officials dispute that characterization. Ultimately, Sessions recused himself from all investigations related to the 2016 campaign and Mueller was appointed special counsel.Sessions has steadfastly maintained that he was honest in his testimony."It simply did not occur to me to go further than the context of the question and list any conversations I may have had with Russians in routine situation, as a I had with numerous other foreign officials," Sessions said at a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing last June."I have never met with or had any conversations with any Russians or any foreign officials concerning any type of interference with any campaign or election," he added.Sessions later said he did not recall a third alleged private meeting with Kislyak on April 27, 2016, at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, where then-candidate Trump delivered his first major foreign policy speech.Finally, in November, Sessions testified that he vaguely remembered a March 2016 meeting with Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos, but said he had "no clear recollection of the details" of what was said at the time. Papadopoulos pleaded guilty last fall to making false statements to investigators about his interactions with foreign officials close to the Russian government."After reading (Papadopoulos' account), and to the best of my recollection, I believe that I wanted to make clear to him that he was not authorized to represent the campaign with the Russian government, or any other foreign government, for that matter," Sessions told House members. As school districts across the country prepare to return to school, small businesses that rely on child visitors are closely watching."We're probably at about 15-20% of the business that we normally do. It has been a real gut-wrenching, heart-wrenching moment," said Susan Shaw, owner of The Art Barn in Georgia.When the pandemic hit in March, she thought her business would only be on a month hiatus. Shaw, who goes by Farmer Sue, quickly realized that wasn't the case."By the end of the month I realized we are not going to be back to normal. The schools, our entire spring was lost and 95% of our summer is lost and 100% of our fall is lost because no one is going to be coming out on field trips," said Shaw.The Art Barn provides art and agriculture entertainment for children throughout the year. Shaw hosts birthday parties, school field trips and even teaches at private schools in the afternoon. They, like Benton Family Farms in Kentucky, rely almost entirely on birthday parties, field trips and summer camps to keep their businesses running.Benton Family Farms says their camps ended up getting canceled."Nothing. Five weeks of camp, every weekend of birthday parties, all of our mobile trailers going out. Our mobile trailer was going out to day care centers, churches and libraries," said owner Mary Marcum.Marcum says every single scheduled event they had was canceled. Marcum has been running educational programs on the farm her parents owned for 72 years."For eight weeks now I thought, gosh what can we do? Because my husband does most of the books and he’s said, 'You're in trouble. You’ve got to do something.' And I had done goat yoga about three years ago, but I didn’t have the time," said Marcum.Marcum ended up turning to that one program she felt could hold up during the pandemic: goat yoga."Goat yoga! People were like, it's almost outdoors, it just has a cover over it. It was an open barn and they started coming!" said Marcum.The twice weekend sessions are helping Benton Family Farms pay for some of the feed for their animals. Marcum is now taking donations, holding auctions online and creating any limited outdoor programming she can to try and stay open. So far, only about 180 people are coming out to visit the farm a month. Compare that to their normal of 4,000 people a month. "You're talking about a parent and a child. At 4,000 that’s ,000. I can do all the little things I want but there’s a lot that’s just too much to make up," said Marcum."There were a lot of tears, more prayers and then more tears and then it was finally in mid-June I was able to grab my bootstraps and say, ‘No, you made this business from absolutely nothing, a crazy idea no one thought would work. Girl get your gumption and get going,'" said Shaw.The Art Barn is also trying to be creative with programming to bring people back to her farm during the pandemic. Shaw is creating educational videos of her programs that can be used as a virtual field trip for school districts across the country."There literally will be a field trip online and we’ve broken them into the five stations so the school can purchase, rent those videos and go online," said Shaw.Small businesses like The Art Barn and Benton Family Farms are desperately hoping that schools will allow field trips again soon. Right now, they aren't expecting any student visitors this fall but are hopeful that COVID-19 rates will at least be low enough for field trips to resume in the spring. 3489

As the holiday shopping season kicks off this week, the Better Business Bureau is warning consumers about a new scam surrounding pricey gaming consoles.According to a news release, with the PlayStation 5 and other gaming devices in high demand, fake deals are appearing on the internet showing the systems at a reduced price.The scam reportedly works by showing a deal on a lesser-known website that has positive reviews, convincing customers to make a purchase via Paypal or another form of payment.According to the BBB, if you receive a package at all from the website or company, it won't be that coveted PS5 or Xbox Series X, but instead will be an item of little value."Since you technically received a shipment, you will be unable to contest the purchase with the third-party who processed the payment," the BBB said.One consumer who fell for a scam said they were unable to get in touch with the website they purchased their item from.“I attempted to reach out to the email address on their website, however I received an email informing me that it was not a valid email address. I then attempted to call the phone number listed on the website, [which gave me] an automatic message informing me that the number was not valid.”The BBB says to do these three things before buying a pricey console:Research the company you plan to purchase from thoroughly. It’s best to purchase items from sellers you already know and trust, but if you decide to purchase from an unfamiliar online store, do your homework first. Read as many customer reviews as you can find, look up the business on org, and do an online search with the company’s name followed by the word “scam” to see if you find any complaints. Make sure the company has legitimate customer service contact information (not just a form you have to fill out and hope for a response) and clear return and refund policies as well.Avoid impulse buying. Scammers like to draw people in with “flash sales” and “limited time offers” in hopes you will hand over your money on impulse. Resist the urge.Don’t believe prices that are too good to be true. Before you start shopping, find out the price of the gaming console at a major retailer. You can check prices online to get a general idea of what the console is selling for. Keep that price in mind as you shop and be wary of sellers who offer the product at a steeply discounted price.
