SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 22-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Mission Valley West, authorities said this morning.The crash occurred in the 6700 block of Friars Road at 5 p.m. Friday, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The man was driving a 2014 Chevy Malibu and making a left turn onto Friars Road from his apartment complex when a 33-year-old woman driving a 2020 Tesla Model Y crashed into the Malibu. The man sustained fatal injuries and his 22-year-old wife, who was a passenger in the car, sustained minor injuries, Heims said.No other injuries were reported. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A COVID-19 vaccine trial sponsored by drugmaker Johnson & Johnson is slated to get underway soon in San Diego, and will include an estimated 2,000 participants at UC San Diego Health, it was announced Thursday.Up to 60,000 participants will be recruited from 10 different countries around the world as the San Diego portion of the trial, dubbed ENSEMBLE, gets underway Oct. 7, according to UCSD.The efficacy, safety and immunogenicity of the drug Ad.26-COV2.S will be tested via a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, in which half of the participants receive a single-dose injection of the vaccine and the other half receive a placebo. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 28-year-old man was hospitalized Monday with non- life-threatening wounds to his leg and hand after he was shot by another man in a parking lot near Mission Bay, police said.The shooting happened around 7:10 p.m. Sunday in a parking lot in the 2600 block of Ingraham Street, north of West Mission Bay Drive, San Diego police Sgt. Kevin Gibson said.The 28-year-old man was standing alone in the parking lot when another man approached him and fired five shots, striking the victim in the leg and the hand, Gibson said.The victim was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, the sergeant said.No detailed suspect description was immediately available.One person was detained at the scene and later arrested on unrelated charges, Gibson said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed during a fight in the College Area, police said Thursday.The stabbing was reported shortly before 7:35 p.m. Wednesday at a home near 71st Street and Mohawk Street, about two blocks north of El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego police Lt. Matt Dobbs said.Officers responded and found a man suffering from at least one stab wound to his upper torso, Dobbs said. The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:56 p.m. Wednesday.Investigators determined the victim was hosting a gathering at the residence when some a disagreement began, prompting the him to ask people to leave, the lieutenant said. About 30 minutes later, some of the attendees returned and a fight broke out, during which the victim was stabbed.The suspects drove off in two vehicles, one described as a silver sedan and the other as a tan- or gold-colored sedan, Dobbs said.No detailed descriptions of the suspects were immediately available. 1043
