T-Mobile and Sprint finally agreed to a massive telecom merger after years of negotiations punctuated by two breakups.The  billion merger, announced Sunday, values Sprint near its current share price of .50.The tie-up would position the telecom companies as fiercer competitors to Verizon and AT&T, which have long dominated the US market."I'm excited to announce that @TMobile & @Sprint have reached an agreement to come together to form a new company -- a larger, stronger competitor that will be a force for positive change for all US consumers and businesses! There’s been a significant bounce back in the U.S. job market, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ latest monthly unemployment report. In June, 4.8 million people were able to go back to work.Businesses in hospitality and leisure added 2.1 million jobs. Food services and drinking establishments added 1.5 million jobs, while retail saw 740,000 workers return to work.“The job market bounced back pretty strongly in June, but we have to keep everything into perspective,” said Ryan Sweet, an economist and Head of Monetary Policy and Research for Moody’s Analytics.Sweet says compared to where the U.S. was prior to the pandemic, jobs are still down by roughly 15 million.Economists, like Sweet, believe the job rebound seen in June is likely over, and the U.S. job market will likely reflect a lull in July.“The lull, it is unclear how long that will last,” Sweet said. “We are hoping until the end of this year.”As coronavirus cases continue to surge in the U.S., the hope for just a lull dwindles and worry about another decline in employment grows.Companies like United and American airlines are already signaling major job loss could come in the near future. Both companies recently reported they may have to each layoff 25,000 workers. Analysts predict if other airlines have to do the same, the industry could lose up to 250,000 jobs.That’s hundreds of thousands of potential jobs lost in just one industry, and many others are signaling a similar situation.“The ones that I am most nervous about are state and local governments because it seems that there is less urgency for lawmakers to pass fiscal stimulus,” said Sweet. “If we don’t get another round of fiscal stimulus, this lull is going to turn into a contraction.”Congress has been talking for two months about another stimulus package, but there is no clear signal that one will come in time. 1881

Things are sizzling in the back of this food truck as burgers are served with a side of bravado.Mike Schuster and Dominic Maldonado have been in the food truck game for almost seven years, and in that time the industry has boomed.“When we first hit the road, I think there were maybe 230 licensed food trucks in all of Denver. I think now it’s over 500,” said Schuster.Doubled in Denver and nearly doubled across the US.According to the US Census, in 2013 there were almost 3,300 food trucks in the US. That number grew to just under 6,000 in 2018. Sales have risen from 0 million in 2012 to .2 billion in 2017.“We’ve seen it, we’ve seen it in front of office buildings, we see it in the downtown core. And I’m not just talking because of COVID, I’m talking a natural business marker, alive and well within the hospitality and restaurant industry,” said Steve Chucri, the president of the Arizona Restaurant Association He says food trucks are here to stay in his state as well.“I think they’ll always have their place and their spot in the industry," Chucri said.A unique opportunity that food trucks have, they are a to-go business and most social distance guidelines during the pandemic don’t hold them back in the same way they do sit down restaurants.But that doesn’t mean the industry is not facing its own challenges.“Back when April hit and everything shut down, it was about a month and a half straight for us of just wedding cancelations, graduation party cancelations, party after party everyday,” Schuster said.“Food trucks depending on those office buildings to have people pouring out at 12 noon everyday and going to a food truck and buying. So, they’ve got to be hurting just like all of us are,” said Chucri.But with challenges come opportunity so Maldonado and Schuster got to work and got creative.“We started going after some of the business to serve some of the front line workers during the pandemic so we started serving some of the workers at King Soopers who were working their butts off through the whole thing. We fed some the Aurora 911 services, the ambulance services because they were working their butts off. We started doing hospital servings. We found a way to find where people were hungry, working still, needed to eat, and just didn’t have a lot of viable options,” said Schuster.Getting creative to get by. Just like a lot of us over the last several months.One thing that doesn’t change, wherever Maldonado and Schuster serve food, they serve it with heart.“When people come back to the truck for seconds and thirds, because they just want to try every flavor of slider we have, even when they’re stuffed. Even just that, even when they don’t even say anything, you know that they love it and they see the smile on their face and it’s great,” said Schuster. 2809

  

TIJUANA, Mexico. (KGTV) -- Conditions were bleak outside the Benito Juarez sports complex, where migrants waited out the rain. Tents stretches as far as the eye can see as migrants hid beneath tarps in a makeshift camp while waiting for the rain to pass. Mud puddles still surround the camp as those inside wait for another band of rain to sweep through Tijuana later Thursday evening. Outdoor showers were set up in the camp. When asked whether or not the journey was worth it, many of the migrants told 10News conditions at the camp are better than conditions in their home countries. Many with the camp say they’re also concerned as more and more migrants come down with colds. Face masks were passed out throughout the week to try to protect those who haven’t caught a cold. This year's National Voter Registration Day was the largest in history, in part, because businesses assisted people to register or update their information. Many businesses say it's their duty to help people vote.Tanger Outlets in cities such as Daytona Beach, Florida, San Marcos, Texas and Savannah, Georgia, held registration events for shoppers coinciding with National Voter Registration Day. This year, records were smashed on National Voter Registration Day as 1.5 million voters registered, and hundreds of those were through the Tanger Outlet event.“It spoke to the traffic that the center saw that particular day, but we’re going to make this an annual event because of the returns they got,” says Stephen Yalof, president and chief operating officer of Tanger Outlets.“We’re very youth oriented, youth conscious in that we feel like the younger people in America have a voice and we want to make sure that we get a hold of them and make sure that they register and have a chance to have their voices heard when it comes to voting,” says Yalof.Tanger is just one of the many businesses that felt the need to get involved.“We’re very clear; we’re an ice cream company but we believe with adding a little bit of sweetness to assist the groups who are working on the front line who work to bring systemic change in the world,” said Jabari Paul, U.S. activism manager for Ben & Jerry'sBen & Jerry's, he says, does so much more than make and sell ice cream.“People can walk into our shops and there’s usually information somewhere up in the shop that informs you of the issues we care about, the issues our partners are working on," Paul said.These days, Paul says, that issue surrounds voting. Their "Scoop Shops" around the country are also called "action stations." Part of the campaign involves sending a text to easily check your registration status.“We believe businesses have a role to play in helping create a better society and that role can go far beyond corporate giving, and businesses have a huge platform they can lend in terms of uplifting very important issues,” says Paul.“You’ve seen so many people this year step it up, and I think you know, we’ve had some good corporate partners and efforts simply because people want to do their part and it's needed,” Ben Hovland, chairman of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, said.The bipartisan, independent group focuses on elections and how they're run around the country. In the early days of the pandemic, there were serious drops in registration because places where people register, like the DMV, were closed. So, Hovland says, the help from businesses is critical.“This year you saw a lot of - a real outpouring of community participation, both government officials, the EAC is a partner in that effort,” Hovland said. “Civic groups, also corporations, celebrities, sports teams just promoting this idea of voter registration and for people to get registered.”Depending on where you live, you may still be able to register or update your registration, which is critical to being able to make sure your vote counts. 3107
