Fans of true crime will get more than they bargain for this weekend, as HBO releases a six-part documentary series based on the book of the same name, I’ll Be Gone In The Dark.The book written by Michelle McNamara follows the writer's own investigation into the suspected crimes and capture of Joseph DeAngelo, better known as the "Golden State Killer." DeAngelo was arrested on suspicion of at least 13 murders and more than 50 rapes across California in April 2018. ERLANGER, Ky. -- Police shot a suspect outside a bar in Erlanger, Kentucky on Wednesday night after the suspect pointed a gun at the officers, according to Kentucky State Police trooper Charles Loudermilk.Loudermilk said two officers from the Erlanger Police Department had been pursuing 40-year-old Dexter Helton, of Florence, over an active felony drug warrant and located him inside Peecox Bar and Grill at about 8 p.m. He fled on foot out the back door of the bar, drew a firearm and pointed it at the officers, at which point an officer shot him. "This action caused a life threatening situation for the officers involved and they were forced to discharge their firearms," Kentucky State Police said in a news release. Helton was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with "critical injuries" after the incident. Neither of the Erlanger officers were shot or injured. Identities of the police officers involved have not yet been released. Investigators are reviewing footage from the officer's body cameras. Authorities also seized a witness's phone who had posted a video of the moments after the shooting on Facebook. (KGTV) - A new technology is being hailed as a "game changer" by some experts as it takes aims at those achy, tiresome commutes.  Cadillac's Super Cruise, the only hands-free semi-autonomous driving feature on the highways, is now on roads in Southern California.Once on the highway, the feature is activated with the push of a button on the steering wheel.  The feature allows the driver to go feet- and hands-free as long as you stay in one lane. "If someone slows down in front of me, it will slow down our speed," said Drew Doran.While other driver-assistance systems use cameras to center a car, Doran says General Motors has extensive laser mapping of US highways that leads to better accuracy."It actually knows what is ahead of the vehicle," said Doran.  On a one-hour-long drive, it tracked every curve and every time, it stayed in the center of the lane. The driver is still expected to be on standby.  A camera on the steering wheel watches for distractions.  If the driver is doing something like reading and blocking that camera, it will warn the driver.When we blocked the camera, a green light flashed - the first of several alerts - before Super Cruise disengaged.  Doran says he recently went on a trip to Los Angeles with his wife.  He says he used Super Cruise for about 80 percent of a drive that left him feeling relaxed.    "Not the usual back pain. Construction is underway to build what leaders say will be an icon of the city.Spanning 108 ft wide, a new arch will be lifted 40 ft above the intersection of Grand Avenue and Centre City Parkway."Escondido is just the hidden jewel of North County; in fact, Escondido means hidden valley and beautiful hidden valley. We're starting to live up to that more than I've ever seen," said Dan Forster.Forster owns Design Moe Kitchen & Bath and has watched new blood elevate the historic downtown over the last ten years, including restaurants, breweries, and new businesses. Also vice president of the Escondido Downtown Business Association, Forster says they've wanted a grand sign like this for years, but he says it was cost-prohibitive. Forster says that changed with an anonymous million donation made to the Escondido Charitable Foundation for the arch. "There's no money that's being taken out of the city budgets to pay for this, it's just one big beautiful sign," said Forster. Crews will raise the sign on March 3. FALLBROOK, Calif. (KGTV) – The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting in Fallbrook that left a person dead late Thursday night.The shooting was reported at around 10:30 p.m. in the 600 block of South Vine Street.Responding deputies arrived to find a person suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The shooting victim, who was not identified, was declared dead at the scene.Investigators are trying to determine the events that led up to the shooting.A description of the suspected shooter was not immediately available.
