SHANGHAI, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- The government of Shanghai, the largest metropolis in eastern China, plans to require users of matchmaking websites to register their real names, a move to make those websites a more honest and ordered community, authorities said on Friday.The environment of the matchmaking websites is chaotic and the anonymity afforded by the Internet opens the door to cybercrimes such as fraud, said Zhou Juemin, chairperson of Shanghai Matchmaking Organization Administration Association.Officials with the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau said people who put up personal ads in newspapers may also be requested to use their real names in the future.China's matchmaking industry has been thriving in recent years as the country is witnessing an increase in the number of singles. Statistics from the All-China Women's Federation shows China currently has around 180 million singles.

UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's Permanent Representative to the UN Li Baodong said here Thursday that caution should be called for in metering out sanctions in international affairs.Li made the remarks when addressing a Security Council open debate on the question of justice and rule of law."We are in favor of improving the UN sanction regime on the basis of extensive consultations so as to improve its credibility, procedures and establishing effective monitoring mechanisms and to establish strict criteria, define timelines, " Li said."Sanctions should be only carried out on basis of facts and evidence. Double standards must be avoided. Impacts against civilian lives and social economic development must be minimized," the ambassador said.Stressing that the UN chart and the fundamental principles of international law as established in it should be upheld, Li said rule of law in international relations should be strengthened.The Charter as well as principles of international law established in it constitute the call of rule of law in international relations and represents the bedrock for developing rule of law in international relations, he said."In the conduct of international relations and international affairs, adherence to the Charter and other fundamental principles of international law, such as respect for national sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, fulfillment in international obligation in real earnest is the essence of promotion of international rule of law," said Li.According to the Charter, UN Security Council resolutions constitute the integral part of international rule of law. Promotion of international rule of law requires strict implementation of the Security Council resolutions by member states, he added.

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- The funeral for Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who died Wednesday at the age of 56, is taking place on Friday, U.S. media reported.The funeral is termed as a small private gathering, The Wall Street Journal quoted a person familiar with the matter as saying.The source would not disclose where or when the event was taking place, citing respect for Jobs and his family's privacy.Apple said it has no public services planned for Jobs. China is deeply concerned over the development," Li said."We always maintain that the parties concerned should resolve their disputes through political negotiations under the relevant UN resolutions, the principle of 'land for peace,' the Arab Peace Initiative and the Middle East Roadmap for Peace with the goal of ultimately establishing an independent Palestinian state and two states,Palestine and Israel, living side by side in peace," he said.
