(KGTV) -- World War II veteran Tom Rice has a lot of war stories. “All that we did was new and experimental because we had experimental and brand new equipment that we weren’t supposed to tell anyone about,” said Rice.Rice grew up on Coronado. He joined the 101st Airborne Division as a paratrooper in 1941 after graduating high school.“I’d never been in a plane. I’d hardly ever seen any planes because I always lived right here.”After training in Georgia, Rice parachuted into Normandy on D-Day. “I’m in the door looking out straight and I could just see all the fireworks coming up. It was, it felt like a Fourth of July thing. When I stepped out, the prop blast hit me. So I’m hanging on the outside and the rest of the guys are going underneath me.”Rice landed safely even though a bullet struck his parachute. “I was black and blue for about three weeks.” He went on to win several Purple Hearts and France’s Legion of Honor.Despite being 97-years-old, Rice still parachutes out of an airplane every year on the anniversary of D-Day to pay tribute to his fellow paratroopers. “I’ll keep jumping until I’m 100.”In honor of his courage, Rice will be the Grand Marshal of Sunday’s Mother Goose Parade, the same parade he enjoyed with his children decades ago.“There’s going to be an awful lot of people there. It’s going to be something.”The parade is in it’s 72nd year. It begins Sunday, November 18, at 1 p.m. The route travels along Main Street from El Cajon Boulevard to 1st Street. 1514

Country singer K.T. Oslin, who hit it big with the 1987 hit “80′s Ladies” and won three Grammy awards, has died. She was 78. Oslin’s friend Robert K. Oermann says she died in suburban Nashville, Tennessee, on Monday morning. He learned of Oslin’s death from her aunt. The cause of death has not been released. Oermann says Oslin had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease and lived in an assisted-living facility since 2016. He said Oslin tested positive for COVID-19 last week. Oslin became one of Nashville’s most intriguing personalities, launching a country music career in her mid-40s and writing songs from a strong woman’s perspective. 651

He was sentenced to death and is awaiting execution at a federal prison in Indiana.The massacre at Mother Emanuel AME church on June 17, 2015, led South Carolina leaders to remove the Confederate flag from the capitol lawn.But as the U.S. is roiled again by more shocking deaths of African Americans, South Carolina isn't removing more monuments of historical figures who repressed or oppressed blacks.Republican leaders like House Speaker Jay Lucas said in 2015 they would not consider any more changes after the Confederate flag came down and have kept their word. And state law protects monuments without a two-thirds vote of the Legislature.To mark the anniversary of the massacre, the people behind the documentary “Emanuel” will hold a discussion about racial justice. CVS Health 12-hour Sinus Relief Nasal Mist has been recalled due to biological contamination, according to the FDA.The product was found to have microbiological contamination identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa.The FDA says repetitive use of a nasal spray containing a pathogen can potentially lead to colonization and subsequent infections. It could be life-threatening in certain patient populations, such as those with cystic fibrosis or immuno-compromised.Consumers that have the product should stop using it and return it to the place of purchase or discard it.The FDA says those who have experienced any problems regarding the product should contact their physician or healthcare provider.    727

COLUSA COUNTY, Calif. (KGTV) -- California Highway Patrol is investigating after someone reportedly shot at a Pacific Gas and Electric worker Wednesday. According to CHP, the worker was traveling in a parked PG&E pick-up truck on I-5 south of Lenahan Road in Colusa County when the passenger side window shattered. At the time, the driver was unsure why the window shattered, but an investigation by CHP determined that a bullet hit the truck. CHP says another vehicle was traveling near the PG&E truck at the time of the incident, but details on the vehicle or driver are unclear at this time. The PG&E worker was uninjured. 646
