SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Congressional candidate for the 53rd District and San Diego City Council President Georgette Gómez says she was unaware of an error on her 2017 tax return and says it was committed by her accountant.Gómez's 2017 tax return shows she reported almost ,000 from pension income but reported zero in actual wages. According to Transparent California, Gómez made more than ,000 that year from her job as a San Diego City Council member and an additional ,000.University of San Diego professor of law Ariel Jurow Kleiman specializes in federal tax law. ABC 10News reporter Adam Racusin asked her to look at the filing."There was a zero on the line where you would normally report your wages," Kleiman said.Discrepancies in Gómez's tax returns were first reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune.The numbers on Gómez's 2018 return also don't match the dollar amounts reported on a financial disclosure report for Congressional candidates.In a statement, Gómez says her accountant made the errors, but that she has filed a corrected return and paid back the taxes."You may have seen a story about my accountant’s errors on my taxes. Like most people, I trusted my accountant to file my taxes accurately and I was shocked to find out that my 2017 returns were not properly filed. My accountant has taken responsibility for the errors. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities are investigating after a body was found floating in the ocean off the coast of San Diego Monday afternoon. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the body was discovered in the water approximately five miles off the coast of Mission Bay around noon. The body was found floating in the water with a life jacket nearby by a good Samaritan, the Coast Guard says. A second vest was also located in the water. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - County officials created a Dia de los Muertos altar to honor the lives of 891 San Diegans who died from the coronavirus, and put a face and heart into the fight.Supervisor Nathan Fletcher and Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez championed the altar as a way to send a message."We wanted to honor those families and honor those lives lived and acknowledge the tremendous impact it's had, but also pay particular tribute to the impact that covid has had on the Latino community," Fletcher said.Saying more than half of those who died in the county are Latinos. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Construction began Friday on SeaWorld's next big attraction for the park, billed as California's tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster.The first phase on the dive coaster started in conjunction with National Roller Coaster Day, as crews prepared the coaster site for the ride's foundation and utilities. The coaster will be located adjacent to the park's Journey to Atlantis attraction in the southeast corner of the park.SeaWorld previously said the ride would be called "Mako," after the endangered species of shark. At the crown of the attraction, riders will be suspended on a 45-degree angle before diving 143 feet at more than 60 miles per hour. For two minutes, riders will zip through inversions, a barrel roll and Immelmann loop, hammerhead turn, and flat spin along 2,500 feet of track. Each car will hold 18 riders in three, six-person rows.Aquatic education will play a role in the attraction as well. SeaWorld plans to partner with a conservation group to focus on the ride's conservation efforts.Switzerland-based Bolliger & Mabillard, which built SeaWorld Orlando's Kraken and Mako rides, will construction the San Diego coaster.SeaWorld plans to open the coaster to the public in 2020. 1476
