SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Small Business Administration Administrator Jovita Carranza visited San Diego to check on America's investment in small businesses."Being here in San Diego and very vibrant market and thousands and thousands of small businesses benefited from the Paycheck Protection Program," Carranza said.One of those businesses is VetPowered and their non-profit Workshops for Warriors, which trains veterans in manufacturing. The company launched in 2008.More than 750 veterans have graduated and 95% of them have been placed in permanent jobs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Students and staff at Morse High School may have been exposed to tuberculosis, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency. According to the agency, the periods of exposure were from June 17 to July 26 during summer school, then again from August 26 to September 10. Health officials and the San Diego Unified School District are working to notify those who may have been exposed. Testing will be provided on September 24 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Morse High School for students identified as potentially exposed. The district is providing testing to staff who may have been exposed. Tuberculosis is transmitted from person to person through indoor air during prolonged contact with someone who is infected. “It is important that we identify those who have had prolonged close contact in an enclosed space with the TB case and test them since the initial infection usually has no symptoms,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “Early diagnosis and prompt treatment can prevent the infectious form of the disease.”Symptoms of TB include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several residents have reported receiving calls from San Diego Superior Court demanding money for pending court cases or face arrest.The scam has been reported by several members of the county Hispanic community, according to court officials. The caller says the potential victim has a pending case and that they must deposit money into a bank account or an arrest warrant will be issued.Scammers are using software to mask their number, so the ongoing calls will display the official court phone number in Caller ID."The Court would like to remind the public that it will not demand money over to phone to clear up cases or dismiss any warrants. When in doubt, immediately hang up and call the Court on your own," a release from San Diego Superior Court said.Law enforcement officials also recommend hanging up and calling authorities if scammers become aggressive over the phone. 908

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Since a movie theater was first added to Horton Plaza in 1985, San Diegans downtown have had cinema options at their fingertips.That is, until the plaza fell on tough times, as business slowed and patrons gained more options for retail and entertainment downtown.The trend has now reached the plaza's Regal movie theater, which closed its doors this year.
