BEIJING, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao met Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso here on Thursday, calling on the two sides to cherish achievements made in bilateral ties.     "Since my visit to Japan in May last year, related parties on the two sides have made every effort to implement the consensus and decisions agreed upon during the visit, and had attained important progress in promoting the strategic and mutually-beneficial relations between China and Japan," Hu told Aso at the Great Hall of the People.     "These achievements have not come easy and should be cherished by us," said Hu.     Hu noted that as the global financial crisis spreads, trade between China and Japan had declined obviously. He urged the two sides to take effective measures to put bilateral trade and investment back on the track of stable growth as soon as possible. They must particularly ensure successes in cooperation in energy-saving and environmental protection, information and telecommunications and high-tech industries, said Hu.     Sino-Japanese trade slid by 7.4 percent year on year in December and plumped by 24 percent in the first quarter of this year, figures from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce show.     Hu noted personnel and culture exchanges have an important and far-reaching impact on the development of Sino-Japan relations.     He urged the two countries to make full use of the existing channels and mobile every resources available to raise bilateral personnel and cultural exchanges, especially the exchanges between youths in general and young officials in particular, to a new height.     In multilateral areas, China and Japan should focus on advancing cooperation in East Asia so that the sub-region will collectively respond to global challenges such as the current financial crisis, he said.     The two countries must further enhance their coordination and cooperation in such regional mechanisms as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations plus China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK), the East Asia summit and the China, Japan plus ROK format, so that together they can promote peace, stability and development in Asia and the world at large, Hu said.     Aso said since Hu's successful visit to Japan in May last year, the two sides have made important progresses in implementing the projects agreed upon during the visits.     He expressed Japan's appreciation of the fact that the two countries have maintained frequent exchanges of visits by and good communications between state leaders.     Japanese and Chinese leaders have also met for many times in bilateral and multilateral occasions to exchange opinions on bilateral relations and issues of common concern, said Aso.     Japan and China are neighbors. Sound cooperation in political and economic fields and the continuous advancement of the strategic and mutually-beneficial relationship between them have laid a solid foundation for the future of this relationship, said the Japanese prime minister.     Aso said it is Japan's wish that the two countries will continue with the close communications at high level, strengthen cooperation in various fields, step up coordination in coping with the international financial and economic crisis, and promote youth exchanges.     Aso arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for a two-day China tour, his first official visit to China since he took office in September.

BEIJING, July 4 (Xinhua) -- China did not lose its advantages in foreign trade despite global downturn and could retain foreign trade level above the global average once global economy recovered, a senior Chinese official said Saturday.     Yi Xiaozhun, vice commerce minister, was speaking at the Global Think Tank Summit that ended Saturday in Beijing.     Though China's foreign trade would not rise sharply as it did in the past few years, the country did not lose its foreign trade advantages thanks to policies to stimulate domestic demands, Yi said.     He said China had been diversifying foreign trade and reported increased trade with countries in Africa, Middle East, middle Asia and Latin America.     Yi also called for halt on protectionism, saying that protectionism had been picking up and about 40 percent of anti-dumping cases and 70 percent of anti-subsidy cases targeted China.     He called for pushing forward the Doha round negotiation, which he believed was key in fighting against protectionism.

ZAGREB, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's just concluded three-nation tour is "very successful" in enhancing friendship, boosting cooperation and promoting common development with relevant countries, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Saturday.     During the tour from June 14 to June 20, President Hu attended the ninth annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the first BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) summit in Yekaterinburg, Russia, and paid state visits to Russia, Slovakia and Croatia.     Hu's tour took place amid the complicated and changing international situation, while the global financial crisis continues to spread, regional security faces new challenges, and various countries share stronger will to deepen cooperation and promote development, Yang said.     The tour was a significant diplomatic move taken by China to develop relations with neighboring countries, major developing countries as well as Central and Eastern European countries, said Yang.     He said the tour has made successful achievements in four major areas. BEIJING, June 10 (Xinhua) -- China is ready to end a de facto suspension of initial public offerings (IPOs) on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges, after the securities regulator unveiled Wednesday the final guidelines for new IPOs.     The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) said the guidelines would take effect Thursday.     An unidentified CSRC spokesman said the commission will give approvals to applying firms any time after the guidelines become effective.     The commission announced draft guidelines on May 22 to solicit public opinions till June 5. The new guidelines aim to improve the price discovery function of the stock market, and help retail investors subscribe to newly issued stocks.     The draft said the quotation system for new issues should be revised so that issue prices faithfully reflect market demand, and lead underwriters should take steps to avoid "unreasonably" high prices.     Under the new rules, stock subscribers need to use either the online or off-line subscription system, but not both, to purchase new stocks. Institutional investors used to enjoy the privilege of subscribing through both systems, while retail investors could use only the off-line system.     Three revisions were made to the draft to follow public advices that the commission deemed reasonable.     The final version said a single investor is refined to use one account only to purchase new stocks, as some institutional investors have multiple accounts. The revision is aimed to help more smaller investors get access to new stocks.     In addition, the commission said it would consider to increase the number of tradable stocks in response to suggestions the lock-down of too many stocks would do no good to curb speculation.     However, the spokesperson said shares lock-down of large shareholders would remain in place, as it is aimed to prevent frequent changes in managerial staff that could jeopardize a firm's operation and create risks and the practice is followed on many overseas markets.     The commission also added the content about improving the "clawback" and the offering suspension mechanisms upon requests of the public. The "clawback" mechanism is used in the event that the deal is subscribed by 100 times or more.     The CSRC effectively suspended all new stock issues last September, as it halted approvals. Since then the stock market has plunged more than 50 percent from its peak 6124.04 in October 2007,compared to Wednesday's closing.     The CSRC spokesman anticipated that the first few new IPOs may not be satisfactory (in boosting the market), but he believed that the goals of the new guidelines could be achieved over time, which would play a positive role in boosting the market in the long run.     A total of 32 firms are on the waiting list to launch their IPOs on the A-share market, expecting to issue a combined more than 14 billion shares.     China State Construction Engineering Corp. is expected to issue12 billion shares.
