SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has thrown out California's ban on high-capacity ammunition magazines. The panel's majority ruled Friday that the law banning magazines holding more than 10 bullets violates the constitutional right to bear firearms. California Rifle & Pistol Association attorney Chuck Michel calls it a huge victory. The ruling has national implications because other states have similar restrictions.California Attorney General Xavier Becerra did not immediately say if he would ask for a full court review or appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. He also did not say if the state would seek a delay to prevent a buying spree. 705
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- California lawmakers won't move forward this year on a plan to build denser housing in some single-family-home neighborhoods and closer to transit stations and jobs. The Senate Appropriations Committee voted Thursday to make the proposal a two-year bill, meaning action will be delayed until next year. The legislation was one of the more contentious proposals related to California's housing storage. Backers including tech companies and trade unions have argued allowing more homes around transit stations and loosening other rules could curb California's housing crunch.Making It in San Diego: Buy a deeply discounted condoBut critics say the measure threatened to change the character of some neighborhoods, worsen traffic and override local decision makers.State Senator Scott Wiener, a Democrat from San Francisco, says he's disappointed by the move. 889

Russia's Deputy Prime Minister ridiculed US President Donald Trump's Twitter diplomacy on Friday, saying that international relations should not depend any individual's frame of mind in the morning."We cannot depend on the mood of someone on the other side of the ocean when he wakes up," Arkady Dvorkovich said, according to the state-run news agency RIA Novosti. While he did not specifically name Trump, the US President has threatened military action against Syria in early morning tweets this week.As the US considers its response to a suspected chemical attack in Syria at the weekend, Trump's threats against Syria and Russia have been made almost entirely on Twitter. 683
Roughly 200 people are being asked to quarantine for 14 days after going to a gym in West Virginia.A member of Planet Fitness tested positive for COVID-19 after going to the gym on June 24, and the Monongalia County Health Department is urging anyone who was at the gym that day to watch for symptoms. The health department estimates about 205 people were at the Planet Fitness during the window of time they are concerned about.“Out of an abundance of caution, the club is temporarily closed for deep cleaning and we are not aware of any additional members or team members reporting symptoms at this time,” Planet Fitness said in a statement.West Virginia, as well as dozens of other states, has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases in the last few weeks. RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say three members of a family were injured, one critically, when they were ejected from the log ride at a Southern California amusement park.Fire officials say the ride malfunctioned and one of the log-shaped vessels overturned Saturday at Castle Park in Riverside.Officials say riders were thrown from the vessel and trapped in the water.Fire Capt. Brian Guzzetta says a woman was hospitalized in critical condition. A man and 10-year-old boy were treated at a hospital for minor injuries.Guzzetta says a pump apparently malfunctioned, preventing the flow of water onto the track. He says when the log descended from one of the falls, there wasn't enough water to slow it down and it crashed. The log ride is closed during an investigation but Castle Park will remain open through the weekend. 838
