SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Despite the early morning wake-up call, San Diegans still got out to catch NASA's first interplanetary rocket launch from the West Coast.San Diegans unfazed by the 4 a.m. start time broke out their cameras and looked up to the sky to catch the Atlas 5 rocket take off from Vandenberg Air Force Base just north. Some users took to Instagram, others to our 10News Weather Watchers Facebook page. Either way, photographers were happy to get out of bed and watch as the rocket soared through the morning sky. Here's a look at the view from the lens' of our local photographers:There was a slight worry over fog clouding the view for San Diegans, but clearly, those worries evaporated once the launch was given the all-clear.Atlas 5 and the InSight rocket are set to arrive at Mars on Nov. 26, 2018, around 12 p.m. Yup, NASA is that exact about the time. For two years, the InSight mission's lander and two satellites will research how the planet's terrain is formed, seismic activity, and how meteorites have affected the surface. If you happened to miss the launch of Atlas 5, we streamed it early Saturday morning on our 10News Facebook page: 1203
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dozens of people came out to see a country music concert at Moonshine Beach in Pacific Beach Thursday night. The concert was scheduled before the Borderline Bar and Grill shooting in Thousand Oaks Thursday night. Brodie Stewart was opening for Colt Ford.Country Music Stewart told 10News ahead of the show he would hold a moment of silence for the victims of Borderline during his show. He also said proceeds from his merchandise sales would also be donated to victim’s families.“It’s hard to talk about because it’s so close for our friends and the country music community,” Stewart said. “It’s been devastating.”Becky Williams, a long-time country music fan, said it’s unfortunate that it was the second attack in a country music venue in just a little over a year. The Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas in October 2017, was the deadliest attack by a lone gunman in America. Despite the repeated attacks, Williams said that she didn’t think twice about attending the concert Thursday night.“Heck no, country music is my life,” Williams told 10News.Survivors from the Las Vegas shooting said the Borderline shooting reopened old wounds and churned up former emotions.“I still haven’t been able to really cope with it, and it brought that back up to the surface,” said Kyle Hurd, who survived the Las Vegas shooting.Others shared the same sentiment, saying it was the best place anyone part of the country music could be.“We love that we can get together and mourn together and we understand each other,” Kimberly Burroughs said. 1578

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Holiday hiring is in full swing and thousands of jobs are up for grabs in Southern California. Retail giants like Kohl’s and Target have announced huge holiday openings, with Kohl’s planning to hire 90,000 holiday associates. Target is also opening up 130,000 seasonal jobs. Although big box stores are hiring a lot of seasonal employees, local businesses are also increasing staffing. Rick Mitchell, owner of the Pumpkin Station Pumpkin Patch in Del Mar says he hires around 200 temporary workers in October – from high school students to retired veterans. According to experts, if you’re looking to cash in on seasonal work, the time to look is now. Sarah Burns with San Diego Workforce Partnership says adding a personal touch will help you stand out in the seasonal job market. “Can you go in person and introduce yourself to the manager. Say hi, I’m so and so and I’m really interested in working here. That will go a long way in a customer service focused industry,” Burns said. Delivery companies, restaurants and even hotels and tax preparation services ramp up hiring during the holiday season. 1132
