(KGTV) — South Bay police officers closed down two marijuana dispensaries operating illegally.Two search warrants were served at illegal pot shops on Thursday by Chula Vista Police, according to the department. One dispensary was located at 500 Vance Street. CVPD arrested two employees on felony charges of operating an illegal dispensary and seized about ,000 in cash and 0,000 to million in illegal products.The second bust occurred at an illegal shop in the 900 block of Broadway. No arrests were made but about ,000 in cash was seized, as well as about 0,000 in illegal products and one loaded handgun. A criminal complaint was filed against the owners, police added. 715

CINCINNATI -- In a “bold move,” Kroger will phase out plastic bags and transition to reusable bags by 2025, according to CEO Rodney McMullen.The Cincinnati-based grocery chain announced the switch Thursday, saying the move “will better protect our planet for future generations."Kroger-owned QFC in Seattle will be the first to make the transition; plastic bags are expected to be eliminated there by 2019.Kroger Executive Vice President Mike Donnelly said the decision aligns with the company’s commitment to making a positive social impact.  "We listen very closely to our customers and our communities, and we agree with their growing concerns," Donnelly said in a news release. McMullen said the move to nix plastic correlates with the company’s “Zero Hunger | Zero Waste commitment” -- a goal to divert waste from landfills and donate food to hungry families.The grocery chain has also been redesigned milk jugs in an effort to use less plastic, CNN reported. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A gunman wearing a clown mask robbed a mini-market Saturday, police said.The robbery happened at 1:05 a.m. at an AM/PM convenience store in the 3100 block of Main Street. The suspect entered the store wearing a clown mask, pulled out a gun and demanded cash, beer and cigarettes.The gunman fled the store in an unknown direction.Medics were called to the scene after the clerk complained he was suffering from anxiety because of the robbery, police said. 482

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - One man is dead after a fight erupted at a South Bay gas station Monday night.Police said two men began arguing outside the AM/PM gas station at 765 E Street just after 8 p.m. Police responded to find one man unresponsive on the ground. The victim was taken to Scripps Hospital in Chula Vista, where he was pronounced dead.Chula Vista police reviewed surveillance footage from the gas station, which showed the victim sitting on a curb asking customers for money at the gas station.The suspect, later identified as 64-year-old Carl Keele, walked up and was confronted by the victim, according to police. The two men appeared to argue before the victim stood up and attempted to punch Keele.The two began to throw punches and kicks at one another until the victim collapsed. Keele then walked off camera and left the scene, police said.Police said the victim could be seen breathing while laying on the ground. Witnesses told police they thought the victim was joking around after he fell.Police later located Keele and took him into custody. Keele told officers the victim asked him for as he approached the AM/PM. He told him no and the victim called him a racial slur, according to Keele.Keele said he told others not to give the victim money and the man became angry and started swinging at him. Police said Keele defended himself by throwing punches in return until the victim collapsed.Police said based on witness statements and Keele's statement, they do not see any grounds to charge Keele.The victim's name is not being released pending family notification.CVPD is still investigating the incident. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- When you ask Chula Vista City councilman Steve Padilla what he learned during 2020, he'll say it was to appreciate the little things in life. Things like valuing every moment and never take time for granted. ABC 10News caught up with Padilla as part of our Positively San Diego, A Season of Hope series. Padilla beat COVID-19 after spending weeks in the ICU, 11 days on a ventilator. Padilla says the love and support of the community has been overwhelming. After beating COVID-19 and weeks of recovery, Padilla got back to work as city councilman, while also campaigning for reelection. He won his reelection by a landslide. The councilman says he is incredibly thankful for the healthcare workers still battling this pandemic, especially the ones that saved his life. While he says he's looking forward to the new year and being able to hug people he hasn't hugged in months, he recognizes there is still so much work to be done before the pandemic is under control. 1008
