SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- California health officials released new guidelines for indoor and outdoor youth sports, whether it is school-related, community sponsored, or club sports.The new guidance from the state’s Department of Public Health also applies to recreational adult sports.According to the state, inter-team competitions will not be allowed until Jan. 25, 2021, at the earliest. State officials will revisit this plan during the first week of January to see if any changes need to be made.Players and teams are allowed to practice, but health and safety measures -- such as social distancing -- must be in place.In the new guidelines, sports are categorized by indoor or outdoor, and then they are classified under three categories: low-contact, moderate-contact, and high-contact. The sports are then grouped based on risk tier.For San Diego County, which is in the state’s purple tier as of Dec. 15, only outdoor low-contact sports -- which includes golf, tennis, and swimming -- are allowed to compete.Once the county reaches the red tier, sports like baseball, softball, and cheerleading will be able to compete.Sports such as basketball, football, soccer, and volleyball would not be allowed to compete until San Diego County is in the state’s orange tier.The state’s new guidance comes months after children, parents, and coaches held rallies and voiced their frustrations about not being able to play.Because of the state’s rules, many teams -- specifically baseball and soccer -- have traveled to states like Arizona to play competitively because of less strict rules.Under California’s new guidance, teams can only compete against teams from the same county, and they cannot compete outside of the state.Click here to view the state's complete guidelines 1777

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As reports surfaced that the Alliance of American Football would suspend all league operations, its teams — and fans — were left in a state of limbo.Fans searching for tickets to the San Diego Fleet's April 14 game at SDCCU Stadium against the Arizona Hotshots were met with a screen reading, "Oh-no! These tickets went fast and we're unable to find more right now."Calls to season ticket lines and links on the team's website went unanswered and returned no results Tuesday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Border officials seized more than 10 tons of marijuana hidden behind a cargo shipment at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry this week.At about 9 a.m. Monday, an agent with U.S. Customs and Border Protection was inspecting a truck with a manifested shipment of "plastic garment hangers." The vehicle was referred to a secondary inspection where an x-ray machines would continue the inspection.During the secondary inspection, officers detected an anomaly which prompted another examination this time with a canine. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – At a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit and San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced new policies on de-escalation and an officer's duty to intervene.Mayor Faulconer said the changes come three weeks after he called for a series of public meetings for feedback on community and police relations.“These policies are meant to protect the officer as much as the subject and prevent escalation whenever possible before force is used,” he told reporters.The first of SDPD'S two new stand-alone policies requires officers, when safe and reasonable, to use techniques that can resolve situations either through lower levels of force or no force at all.The second new stand-alone policy requires officers to step in if another officer is using unreasonable force and mandates that they report the incident to a supervisor.“Let me be clear. It's not as though the SDPD was operating without de-escalation tactics before but now the department has separate, expanded stand-alone policies that don't just suggest de-escalation, they require it,” added Mayor Faulconer.“It's an absolute.
