TAIPEI, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Kuomintang (KMT) honorary chairman Wu Poh-hsiung Monday said the peaceful cross-Straits development was the "right path", while meeting here with Liang Baohua, secretary of Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).     "Practice is sole criterion for testing truth. The development of cross-Straits ties over the past year has made me strongly feel that it is the right path to seek peaceful development," Wu said. Our visit is to implement the common prospects for peaceful cross-Straits development with pragmatic measures," Liang said.     The CPC and KMT reached an agreement on the common prospects for peaceful cross-Straits development in 2005.

BEIJING, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, held talks here Wednesday afternoon with Kim Hyong-o, speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (ROK).     Wu spoke highly of Sino-ROK relations and the positive role that the two legislatures have played in enhancing bilateral relations.     China attaches importance to its relationship with the ROK and both countries are of great influence in the region, he said, noting that development of the bilateral relations accord with the fundamental interests of the two peoples and is conducive to the regional peace, stability and development. BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States issued a joint statement in Beijing Tuesday, promising that the two countries would "take concrete steps" to advance "sustained and reliable" military-to-military relations in the future.     "The two sides will actively implement various exchange and cooperation programs agreed between the two militaries, including by increasing the level and frequency of exchanges," according to the joint statement issued after Chinese President Hu Jintao met with visiting U.S. President Barack Obama.     The two sides commended the outcomes of the visit to the U.S. by General Xu Caihou, vice chairman of the Chinese Central Military Commission, in October this year.     Preparations would be made for the visit to the U.S. by General Chen Bingde, chief of the General Staff of China's People's Liberation Army, and the visits to China by Robert Gates, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, and Admiral Michael Mullen, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, the statement showed.     The goal of these efforts, according to the statement, is to improve the Chinese and U.S. militaries' capabilities for practical cooperation and foster greater understanding of each other's intentions and of the international security environment.     Obama is in Beijing for a four-day state visit to China that started in Shanghai Sunday night.

BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Wednesday China and the United States should make joint efforts to push forward cooperation on clean energy and climate change in a substantial way.     Wen said such cooperation is important work and in the interests of both countries and the world. He said the two countries should advance cooperation in this area to bring benefit to the human beings and future generations.     Wen made the remarks when meeting with participants of the Strategic Forum for U.S.-China Clean Energy Cooperation that began in Beijing Wednesday. The forum will last to Friday.     The forum was co-sponsored by the Chinese think tank China Institute of Strategy and Management and the Brookings Institution of the United States. Participants include Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and high-ranking officials from both governments. He said bilateral cooperation in this area has strategic significance and broad prospect.     Wen said the two sides should earnestly implement the agreement on the 10-year energy and environment cooperation framework they signed in June, 2008.     He called for the governments, enterprises and researching institutes of both countries to join effort for this end.     Wen said energy efficiency and environment protection are both a basic strategy of China to achieve sustainable economic and social development and a major measure to cope with climate changes.     The American guests made positive comments on the efforts that China has made in developing clean energy and addressing climate changes.     They expressed the wish that the two countries should set up common targets and carry out constructive, practical cooperation in this respect.

BEIJING, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- China would not yield to pressure for the appreciation of its currency yuan, or renminbi, in any form, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Sunday.     "A stable Chinese currency is conducive to the international community," Wen told Xinhua in an exclusive interview.
