in South Carolina on a murder charge in connection to the case.El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder said Letecia Stauch was arrested Monday morning in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in connection to the disappearance of Gannon Stauch. She had reported him missing on Jan. 27. She was taken into custody on charges of first-degree murder of a child under the age of 12 by a person in a position of trust, second-degree child abuse resulting in death, tampering with a deceased human body and tampering with physical evidence, Elder said. He called this arrest part of a "rapidly developing and highly complex investigation."Letecia is being held without bond at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Horry County, South Carolina, and will remain there until she is extradited back to Colorado Springs, Elder said. El Paso Sheriff's Lt. Mitch Mahalko said they are not releasing the information that resulted in Letecia's arrest, but noted that the investigation has been methodical across multiple states. "While we have not yet found Gannon, information has been developed that is helping us narrow our search," he said. "As you can see from the arrest, sadly, we do not believe Gannon is alive. Our work is only just beginning."He said residents in El Paso County will see many law enforcement officials in the county over the coming weeks, and possibly months, as they continue the investigation. As authorities explained the new development, Gannon's parents — mother Landen Hiott and father Albert Stauch — stood behind them and held hands with their heads bowed. Hiott then stepped to the podium. She said while authorities have said that her son is no longer with us, she feels that "he is with us.""After the stories from people all over the world, he's not only my hero now, but he's the world's hero," she said. She said she never thought she'd be standing in that position, and called it a nightmare."I've had to put trust in people I don't know," she said. "Today I got the worst news and the best news. Obviously we know what the worst news is, but the best news is that justice will be served. And I'll make sure of it. Because my boy did not deserve any of this that has happened to him."Jacqueline Kirby, spokesperson for the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, read a letter Albert had written. He described the day his son was born — Sept. 29, 2008 — and how his heart stopped. Albert said his son's infectious smile and constant laughter impacted everybody he met. He had been looking forward to the boy's teenage years as he became a young man. His heart stopped again on March 2, 2020, the letter read. "My little boy is not coming home," it read. He said that means no more Nintendo games together, taco Tuesdays, smooth-looking haircuts or "G-Man" for this world. "The person who committed this heinous, horrible crime, is the one that I gave more to (than) anyone else on this planet, and that is a burden that I will carry with me for a very long time," his letter read. Elder said the investigation has only begun and they will not stop until justice is served. If not, leave it for someone else in need.’”Find Your Anchor is based out of Orange County, California, but boxes have reached places all across the globe. The boxes can be requested by people in need, ordered by mentors who want to help people in need, or launched in a public place for somebody to find. Borowsky says she thinks launching them organically into the world, is the most powerful way for somebody to encounter a box.“It’s like a message from the universe," she says. "Like ‘I was meant to find this, this was put here for me.’”The box holds multiple items to give people hope: a deck of cards titled “52+ reasons to live”, a bracelet, an infographic on depression, a sticker, a couple posters, some cards on how to become a messenger, and a list of resources. Borowsky felt inspired to create Find Your Anchor, after her own struggles with mental health. She attempted to take her life multiple times. Now, she's helping others who may be in a dark place. Keeping track of each individual box, Borowsky says she’s received notes from many people saying the box has saved their life. And that’s why more and more mental health advocates are standing behind Find Your Anchor.“I like the find your anchor box because it’s empowering the individual immediately, and yet provides resources for them if they need more than just the box,” Amanda Greene says.Greene says she can’t stop ordering Find Your Anchor boxes, because she understands their powerful impact.“Living with chronic illness and having it for a long time, there’s days where you’re like ‘OK, I’m done,’” she says. As soon as the people receiving boxes are in a better place, they’re encouraged to pass it on, adding an item that was an anchor for them.Whether it’s a phone call on the top of a bridge, or a box by the beach, what’s most important for people to realize, is that they’re not alone, they’re loved, help is available, and there is hope.“My core belief in the height of my darkness was that no one would care," Borowsky recalls. With reported squabbling between the CDC and White House, the CDC announced late Wednesday that a no-sail order on passenger cruise ships has been extended through the month of October due to the coronavirus pandemic.The order, which will now run through Oct. 31, was set to expire tonight.According to the New York Times, the CDC had wanted to extend the order into February, but the White House blocked the move.The no-sail order, which originally began in April, prohibits cruise ships from carrying 250 passengers in waters subject to US jurisdiction.The CDC said it has identified at least 3,689 coronavirus-related illnesses, and 41 associated deaths, although the CDC cautions these figures are likely an underestimate.“On cruise ships, passengers and crew share spaces that are more crowded than most urban settings,” the CDC said. “Data show that when only essential crew are on board, ongoing spread of SARS-CoV-2 still occurs. If unrestricted cruise ship passenger operations were permitted to resume, passengers and crew on board would be at increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection and those that work or travel on cruise ships would place substantial unnecessary risk on healthcare workers, port personnel and federal partners (i.e., Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Coast Guard), and the communities they return to.”While it’s possible the cruise industry can resume operations in November, it’s likely that the coronavirus will continue to have a significant effect on the industry for months to come. After serving time in jail the past three and a half months, Montanez said she gave him a second chance to get his act together. WFTX reached out to the State Attorney's Office and Cape Coral police to try and get confirmation that this phone call happened Monday. They said they are looking into it but can't yet confirm Montanez's account. Authorities said they won't be able to release what is said in any of Wilson's phone calls from jail because it's still an active investigation. Wilson remains in the Lee County jail on unrelated charges.
