(KGTV) - Voters are expressing confusion and frustration after receiving a mailer titled 'COPS Voter Guide.'Brandon Salgado was sorting through the mail this past weekend at his grandfather’s home in Santee when he saw the political mailer."It’s got the badge, says 'COPS Voter Guide.' On the back it says 'COPS' and it's red and blue. Looks like something law enforcement would back," said Salgado.Salgado has family members that work in and with law enforcement, and took a closer look at the mailer’s list of ‘priority’ propositions. At the top, next to Prop 16, which involves the issue of affirmative action, is the word 'NO,' and an arrow pointing to a mailer's description of the proposition: 'For Racial Equality.'"I was shocked that someone should put out that law enforcement is 'No' for racial equality. Just didn’t sit well with me. It’s a bad look, bad optics," said Salgado.Salgado, who thought the mailer had police backing, then saw the fine print, which says 'This organization does not represent any public safety personnel.'So what does it represent?A video on the the COPS Voter Guide website says the Folsom-based group is a non-partisan, public advocacy organization.“The candidates we support have pledged to make public safety a top priority,” explains the group's director in the video.During the 2016 presidential election, the Modesto Bee described it as a 'pay-to-play mailer,' disguising advertisements as endorsements. On the mailer itself, there is the phrase 'paid for' by the candidates or ballot measures."It’s completely misleading ... If I were law enforcement, I'd be upset they appear to be representing me," said Salgado.Salgado, who says the mailer's law enforcement branding is convincing, worries other voters may not read the fine print."Everyone should want the truth and the facts to make a decision for themselves ... (KGTV) - A heartbroken dog owner in Santee is hoping to warn others after coyotes attacked her dog while she was walking him on a leash.Presley, an eight-year-old Silky Terrier, was small with a big personality. "Just a loving dog and wild personality. He would always protect me," said Michelle Cimmarrusti.The instinct was on display around 5 a.m. Tuesday. On Palm Glen Drive, on the edge of her condo complex, Cimmarrusti was taking Presley out for a quick walk. Her retractable leash was stretched out about five feet. "On the sidewalk near a bush, I felt Presley tug. Thought he wanted to sniff a bush. That's when the two dogs came out," said Cimmarrusti.Cimmarrusti quickly realized they weren't dogs, but aggressive coyotes."Just horrifying. My brain just went numb at the time," said Cimmarrusti.The protective Presley barked and lunged. As she pulled frantically on Presley, the clasp on her collar broke, and Presley took off. Cimmarrusti says it was a blur, but Presley and the coyotes ended up in the street before disappearing into the complex."I kept screaming at the top of my lungs for his name," said Cimmarrusti.About ten minutes later, a neighbor found a bloodied Presley, who died in Cimmarrusti's arms on the way to the pet emergency clinic."I just couldn't get to him quick enough," she said, choking back tears.She has since learned another dog was killed by a coyote in the same area weeks ago. Experts say coyotes attacking a leashed dog is a sign they're getting more aggressive in an area and getting less afraid of humans, whether it's food scarcity or the unintentional feeding of coyotes."Please be cautious. If I can help one person and their dog, I'll be grateful. Keep them on a tighter leash. Don't let them far and keep aware of your surroundings," said Cimmarrusti. 1825

SANTA ANA (KGTV and CNS) - Authorities say five people were killed Sunday afternoon when a small plane crashed near a Santa Ana shopping center. The crash happened around 12:29 p.m. in the parking lot of the Staples Supercenter on the 3800 block of South Bristol Street. No one on the ground was hurt. As the plane barreled through the parking lot, it struck at least one unoccupied car, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said. A nearby intersection was closed in all four directions near the crash. The parking lot is shared by Staples, a CVS drug store, a Michaels' decorations store, and a Wells Fargo Bank branch. The crash site is about one mile northwest of the northern end of the runway at John Wayne Orange County Airport. 781
