CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A man who allegedly stabbed and seriously injured another man with a screwdriver during a San Ysidro street robbery pleaded not guilty Friday to attempted murder, robbery and vandalism charges.Eduardo Hernandez Oliveros, 22, is accused of robbing the victim just before 7:30 a.m. Sept. 17 in the 600 block of East San Ysidro Boulevard.Police said the victim was using his cell phone when Oliveros confronted him on the street and asked to use the phone. Before the victim could react, Oliveros allegedly snatched the phone out of his hand and took off.Deputy District Attorney Daniel Shim alleged the victim chased Oliveros down and a "physical struggle" ensued, culminating in the defendant stabbing the victim in the face and neck with a screwdriver.Bystanders called police, who responded and arrested Oliveros, who faces more than 25 years in state prison if convicted of all charges, according to the prosecutor.The victim, whose name was not released, was hospitalized with serious injuries, according to the San Diego Police Department, which alleged that Oliveros "admitted he was trying to kill the victim."Oliveros has a prior attempted murder conviction for stomping on his girlfriend's head, stabbing her in the leg and telling her he was going to kill her, according to Shim. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) - Chula Vista police are searching for a possible arsonist after two brush fires burned part of Otay river bottom Friday afternoon. Fire crews responded around 2 in the afternoon to the area south of Main Street and east of Broadway. While crews were working to put out the fire, they received a call of a second fire in the same location. The second fire presented more difficulties because of its location. Batallion Chief David Albright tells 10News, "it was kind of down in the slough, in the river bottom, so we were able to bring in a helicopter and make some water drops". Multiple water drops were made and fire crews had both fires out within an hour. Chula Vista police are continuing their search for a possible arsonist. They believe there could be a connection to one of the homeless individuals living near the Otay River bottom. San Diego County sheriffs also sent up their helicopter to look for a suspect in the brush but were unsuccessful. 985

(KGTV) — Sheriff's deputies were led on a wild chase through the South Bay Saturday, ending with a violent crash and three people injured, including a deputy.San Diego Sheriff's deputies were called to a report of a suspect burglarizing a vehicle in the area of 13th St. and Donax Ave. in Imperial Beach just before 10 a.m. When they arrived, the man took off and led deputies on a vehicle pursuit into San Ysidro.During the pursuit, deputies say the suspect hit a female driver on Dairy Mart Rd. before continuing northbound on Interstate 5, onto side streets in Chula Vista, and back onto NB I-5. At times, the driver reached speeds of 100 mph, deputies say.The woman was not injured, SDSO said.The pursuit came to an end when the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a bridge at the top of the H St. offramp. A deputy involved in the pursuit crashed into another vehicle at the top of the offramp as well. Both the deputy and that driver were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.The crash was so intense, it rained vehicle wreckage on the freeway below and damaged a woman's windshield. Bridge railings and fencing were also damaged, SDSO said.The suspect fled on foot from the crash, heading down the H St. offramp and onto the shoulder of I-5 before deputies captured him. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries. 1393
