SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer has identified a park-and-ride lot in Scripps Ranch as a perfect place for new affordable housing, but neighboring businesses worry the plan will drive away their customers."You solve one problem and create ten new ones. There’s seven businesses that are going to suffer," said Yannis Pihas, owner of Yanni's Bar & Grill.Pihas says his customers, as well as visitors to the two hotels in the center, frequently use the park-and-ride because there is limited parking otherwise. While he's attempted to speak with city leaders about his concerns, so far he says he has not been given any indication that the housing project will include parking that the businesses can use.ABC 10News reached out to the city. A spokesperson says the project is still in the early process of planning and that details on potential parking have yet to be worked out. The spokesperson also said the public can always bring concerns to the area's planning board and that there will be more opportunities for public input once the plan is prepared.In a statement, Mayor Faulconer said, "There is a great need in our community for housing that gives folks a real chance to have a place of their own, but also the support system they need to stay housed. This public-private partnership will help transform these vacant City-owned properties into opportunities that will change the lives of so many of our fellow San Diegans for the better."The plan is expected to be finalized and brought to the City Council for a vote in 2021. 1566

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are investigating after a man died in Southcrest Community Park late Friday night. Police were called to the scene after a passerby found a man with trauma and, possibly gunshot injuries to his upper body laying on the 1300 block of South 40th Street just after 10 p.m.San Diego Fire-Rescue was also called to the scene and began life-saving efforts, but police say the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say very little is known about the circumstances surrounding the man's death. The victim has been identified, but police haven't released his name at this time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego and National City police departments announced several arrests Friday in violent crime cases over about two years in central San Diego and the South Bay.Police said in a release the crimes occurred between April 2018 and February 2020 in the Bay Terraces, Mountain View, and Shelltown neighborhoods, and the National City area.Many cases appeared to be linked to the same suspects, police added, and a gang allegation was attached to each crime:John Orozco, 26, of El Cajon, was arrested on Nov. 11, 2020, for the murder of Joaquin Ruiz on July 12, 2019, the attempted murder of Julio Martull on July 24, 2019, and other related crimes.Ethan Apan, 28, of National City, was arrested on Nov. 17, 2020, for the murder of Joaquin Ruiz on July 12, 2019, the attempted murder of Julio Martull on July 24, 2019, and conspiracy to commit the murder of Marco Magana on Aug. 1, 2019. Apan was also arrested for other related charges.Kevin Herrera, 26, of National City, was arrested on Nov. 17, 2020, for the murder of Joaquin Ruiz on July 12, 2019, and other related charges.Ismael Betancourt, 20, of National City, was arrested on Nov. 19, 2020, for the murder of Lowry Rivers on April 8, 2018. Jorge Sanchez, 18, of San Diego, had previously been arrested for the murder of Emily Cortez on July 15, 2020. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police are searching for a woman they have identified as a person of interest in a recent homicide case in the Talmadge area.Police believe 25-year-old Sheila Camarena may be linked to a deadly shooting that occurred on Sept. 18, in the 4400 block of Euclid Avenue.According to police, in the early morning hours of Sept. 18, officers responded to a reported shooting in which a 33-year-old Black man was injured.The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was identified by police as Mychael Farve.A witness said the suspected shooter may have fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, but police did not verify the witness’ statement.Camarena is Hispanic, 5 feet 5 inches tall, and weighs 170 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes, but police noted Camarena is known to dye her hair blonde and/or red.According to police, Camarena is considered armed and dangerous.Anyone with information on her whereabouts or the Sept. 18 case is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to ,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the case. 1153

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego drivers waiting patiently to pick up friends and family at Lindbergh Field will have a new location at the airport starting Monday. San Diego International Airport is relocating its cell phone waiting lot to an area northwest of its current location on June 24. Drivers may park for free in the cell phone lot for up to an hour while they wait for loved ones to notify them of their arrival, avoiding traffic and illegal parking at the terminals.The new 85-space lot will be located east of the Airport Authority Administration Building on Harbor Drive. It will be accessible via a traffic light at Liberator Way, airport officials say. 673
