SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld San Diego’s Skyride reopened Wednesday after a ‘”gust of significant wind” caused the ride to close in mid-February. According to SeaWorld, the park, along with the ride’s manufacturer and the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health inspected various parts of the ride over the last several months, including the towers, gondolas, ride cables and various other equipment. SeaWorld says the ride’s communication cable was also replaced. I was just a kid when I first rode Skyride, and I’m happy that I can ride it now with my grandchildren.”The ride first opened in San Diego in 1967. 1229

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some local drivers hoping to earn some extra cash are turning to peer-to-peer shipping.Kuazine King owns his own production company specializing in hip hop.  Business is good, but he still needs to supplement his income.  The problem?"I'm always on the road.  I have artists ... I need something that gives me ultimate flexibility but also good pay," said King.Ten months ago, King signed up to drive for Roadie, a peer-to-peer shipping app that launched in San Diego about a year ago.  The Atlanta-based company matches people and businesses with stuff to send, with drivers headed their direction.On a recent morning, 10News stopped by King's home in Del Cerro and watched as he scrolled through a list of delivery jobs.  After a few seconds, he chose one.  Delta Airlines needed someone to pick up a bag from Lindbergh Field."I'm going to take it to Carlsbad for ," said King.10news rode along as he headed to the airport picked up his package from the Delta office.  It was a surfboard, one of two airport pickups he got that morning, both bound for North County.King says on a given day, he can complete about six deliveries and earn about 0.  He likes the pay and the power over his schedule."Uber is flexible, but this is the ultimate flexibility," said King."The whole idea is to tap into unused space already on the road to make delivery more efficient, more cost effective, more sustainable and faster than any other delivery method," said Jamie Gottlieb, Content Manager at Roadie.King says all that adds up to another perk: happy work days.        "I don't think I've ever delivered to a person who hasn't been happy to get their bags.  They're always happy!" said King. 1795

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Zoo and Safari Park hope to reopen "in the coming weeks" now that California has released guidance for zoos to open their gates starting Friday.Last week, the state released guidance for county's approved for accelerated reopenings to open businesses like zoos, family entertainment centers, gyms, bars and wineries, and more starting June 12.(The state's criteria for sectors can be found here.)In a statement to 10News, the zoo said staff are reviewing the state's guidance to plan how to best reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic:"We are delighted to receive word from the Governor letting us know that the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park will be able to open this month. We can’t wait to invite our community back to the zoo and park in the coming weeks. We have just received information from the State regarding the requirements and guidelines for us to re-open and are reviewing this document so we can determine next steps to open safely and responsibly for our community. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's Metropolitan Transit System has approved a plan to convert all of the agency's 800 buses to a zero-emission fleet by 2040.The agency will send its plan to the California Air Resources Board for certification. State regulations require public transit agencies to gradually transition to all-zero emission bus fleets by 2040.MTS' plan aims to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions by about 43% over the next 19 years. The cost of the full transition is about 1 million over that same time frame. It will cost about 5 million more to acquire land and build a new facility to accommodate additional electric buses, according to MTS.A "first-in-the-nation" overhead gantry system is also included in the plans to automate charging."MTS has been testing six electric buses in revenue service over the past 10 months and we’ve been very pleased with their performance," said Sharon Cooney, MTS Chief Executive Officer. "The performance data makes us confident that we can make a transition to an entire fleet of zero-emissions buses over the next 19 years, and continue to provide the highest quality of service our passengers expect and deserve."The busses will be rolled out in priority to routes through communities considered by MTS to experience the most negative impacts of greenhouse gas emissions and environmental health. MTS plans to also utilize a mix of electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to meet its goal. 1461
