(KGTV) - The death of actor Luke Perry from a stroke is raising awareness about the health issue among younger patients. Strokes, which are typically associated with the elderly, are appearing more in people under 50 years old, according to Sharp Health Care. According to the American Heart Association, a stroke happens when a clot in a blood vessel stops blood from reaching the brain. Doctors believe the increase is due to higher rates of obesity and diabetes, and poor management of blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Risk factors include smoking, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. The early warning signs can be remembered as F.A.S.T.:- Face drooping- Arm weakness- Speech difficulty- Time to call 911 “There is this ‘golden window,’ usually within the four and a half hours after the onset of stroke symptoms where people who receive medical treatment during this time have a better chance of survival than those who don’t,” says Dr. Amirhassan Bahreman of Sharp Grossmont Hospital. The only FDA-approved treatment for ischemic strokes dissolves the clot and improves blood flow, according to the American Stroke Association. However, it must be administered within three hours. A 2-month-old in Arizona has tested positive for COVID-19, according to her mother.Angelica Wendell of Gilbert thinks her newborn Eevee contracted the virus from Wendell's sister, who was at their home visiting recently and later developed symptoms. She was shocked to find out her daughter had the virus."Everyone's like kids don't get it, so it's not a big deal, it's just old and sick people. So when you find out your newborn has it, she's my first kid, so I've never had another baby to experience any other illness with, so when you find out it's COVID, it's just heartbreaking. I started panicking because I didn't know what was going to happen," said Wendell.Wendell said Eevee first developed a fever and stopped acting like her happy self."I had a bad feeling about it so I took her to the emergency room. The next day she started getting bad congestion and she started getting a viral rash."Wendell said Eevee is now doing a lot better. She's fever-free and she's eating again.Dr. Eunice Yoon, a critical care pediatrician at Banner's Cardon Children's Medical Center, said it's hard to know for sure how common the virus is in infants."We know that kids overall are maybe 5-10 percent of all the positive tests that we have. But we're also not testing everyone, so it's hard for us to know. We also know that babies primarily are getting their infections from adults. They're not getting them from other kids."She said babies and children with the virus usually have mild symptoms, and up to 50 percent of children don't show symptoms at all.Dr. Yoon recommends adults do their part -- keep a distance, wash hands and wear masks, especially around infants."We're always worried about those newborn babies when they're less than a month; their immune systems are not fully developed. We don't know whether this viral illness could predispose them to other illnesses, and we don't know if there's going to be any effects down the road for these kids," said Dr. Yoon.Wendell hopes others learn from her story and take precautions."Just be careful, even if you don't let your baby outside be careful who you let around them because you think even your family is fine, but you may not know exactly what they're doing. It's very sad to watch your child, especially with this disease that no one really knows a whole lot about," said Wendell.Wendell has had a fever but doesn't have severe symptoms. A 60,000-square-foot museum that will include a first-of-its-kind tribute to the 1980 U.S. Olympic team is scheduled to open July 30 in Colorado Springs after a three-year construction project. The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum will feature 12 galleries that include exhibits on athlete training, the Summer and Winter Games, and the USOPC Hall of Fame. The 1980 Olympics, which were held in Moscow, were boycotted by the American Olympic team in protest due to the Soviet Union invading Afghanistan, according to ABC News.“The stories of our Olympians and Paralympians are the stories of this nation’s history,” Museum Chief Executive Officer Christopher Liedel said in a news release. “Every American can see themselves in the members of Team USA and will be inspired by their dedication, perseverance, and respect for the Olympic and Paralympic values.
