DULZURA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three fires burned in rural East County Wednesday afternoon as Cal Fire worked to extinguish the flames. According to Cal Fire, all three of the fires sparked in the community of Dulzura along Highway 94 between Otay Lakes Road and Freezer Road. Video of the blaze shows traffic in the area backed up for several miles after crews closed Highway 94 between Otay Lakes Road and Barrett Lake Road. Around 5:30 p.m., Cal Fire said crews were able to stop the forward rate of spread of all three fires. In total, all three fires burned slightly less than 32 acres. Sky10 was live over the fire. Dr. Anthony Fauci said during an interview on Wednesday that a World Health Organization expert was “not correct” for stating that coronavirus infections from those who are asymptomatic are “very rare.”Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, a World Health Organization’s infectious disease expert, walked back her comments from Monday one day later, qualifying her statement by saying it’s not the official policy of the WHO."I used the phrase 'very rare.' I think that's misunderstanding to state that asymptomatic transmission globally is very rare. What I was referring to was a subset of studies," Van Kerkhove said during a press conference on Tuesday. "I was just trying to answer a question at a press conference, I wasn't stating a policy of the WHO or anything like that."While the majority of coronavirus cases come from those who are symptomatic, Fauci said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” that the spread from those who are asymptomatic is not uncommon."The evidence that we have given the percentage of people, which is about 25, 45-percent of the totality of infected people, likely without symptoms," he said. "And we know from epidemiological studies that they can transmit to someone who is uninfected, even when they're without symptoms. So to make a statement to say that's a rare event was not correct."On Monday, Dr. Ashish Jha, the director of Harvard's Global Health Institute, took issue with Van Kerkhove's anaylsis"Asymptomatic spread is the Achilles heel of this outbreak," Jha tweeted. "Both asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic spread huge problem for controlling disease because folks shedding virus while asymptomatic pre-symptomatic has one advantage: You can use contact tracing to find folks they infected. But that doesn't help prevent pre-symptomatic spread"Jha cited a May Swiss study that indicated that between 40 and 60% of all coronavirus cases originated from people when they didn't have symptoms at the time of the spread. The debate comes as a number of states are continuing to see an increase in coronavirus cases. Most notably is Arizona, which has advised hospitals to be prepared to expand intensive care units in order to accommodate the influx of coronavirus patients. 2208

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Neighbors say two elderly residents of the Lincoln Palms Apartment in El Cajon were taken to the hospital Wednesday, after an explosion on Lincoln Avenue. New resident Jorge Limon told 10News Reporter Rina Nakano he and his grilfriend Samantha were unpacking when they noticed an odd smell. Later, they heard what sounded like two explosions. "We thought somebody threw a table out of the window or something. But then we saw the smoke and fire," Limon said, adding that he immediately grabbed his fire extinguisher to help.  The explosion happened on the first floor of the building around 8 p.m., just below Limon's new apartment.Fire crews arrived four minutes after the 911 call, but were surprised to see that the flames were already out when they arrived. With his extinguisher, Limon was able to put out the flames. The explosion shattered the windows of the downstairs unit, leaving the curtains and glass all around the pool. Inside Limon found the two elderly residents, who he said both suffered injuries. "They both went ot the burn center, which means they had enough burns to where it was a concern," said Heartland Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Bent Koch. San Diego Gas & Electric, El Cajon Police and several other agencies are investigating what caused the explosion. Limon told 10News his fire extinguisher was no accident. "I made a big deal to bring it," he said. "I'm glad I did, because if it weren't for this bad boy, God knows what would have happened."10News Reporter Rina Nakano shot a Facebook live explaining the scene. You can watch below:  1705

Discussing your salary with co-workers is seen as a taboo subject, but now some people are saying you should be talking openly about how much you make. "I think salaries in the work place have been taboo to talk about for years, and I think that's created a number of problems," says Marcus Ollig, president of the recruiting firm The Advocates. Ollig has been managing employees for years and believes transparency is important. However, he says, sharing your salary with co-workers is not the way to go about it. "You may hear that you are actually paid more than the person you're talking to, and now they ask you the question back, and now, you might not want to share because you don't want to make them feel bad," explains Ollig. Many people we spoke with say they want open dialogue and feel it's healthy in the workplace. However, Ollig says the real question you should find out is are you being paid what you're worth?Instead of going to your co-worker, Ollig recommends going to your boss. They are the only person who can tell you your worth in the company, Ollig says. But before you do, first do some research. Go to online sites like Glassdoor, Pay Scale and The Bureau of Labor Statistics. Those sites will show you the average pay range of someone in your position. "Speak to a really legitimate recruiter or temporary staffing agency, depending on what you do, because they have data on every job that they service," suggests Ollig. Once you're equipped with the knowledge, then it's time to speak to your boss."If your employer says, 'You are doing great, but there is no way I can get you from x to y,' then maybe talk about different positions, if you like the company" Ollig says. "And if that's not a possibility, maybe it's time to move on." 1857
