El Cajon (KGTV)- An El Cajon Family is on the edge after a man tried to break into their home through their toddler’s bedroom. The family lives off Chase Avenue. Liz Jasiak says she noticed a handprint on her son’s bedroom window on Christmas Eve. When she went outside, there was a latex glove sitting behind the trash bins, near the window, in their backyard. “You have this little person who is depending on you to take care of them and their safety,” says Jasiak. “So it's definitely a sense of violation.”Surveillance video shows the man walking up to the home and lingering on the front porch moments after she leaves to take her son to daycare. The video then shows the man leaving but returns and disappears on the other side of the home. “It’s kind of creepy to think that someone was watching my habits or my moves because the moment we left he immediately enters our yard, says Jasiak.”The family says multiple screens to the windows of their home were cut around the same time the suspect tried to break in. The family has reported the crime to the El Cajon Police Department. They say they will be adding extra security to their home. 1156

EL CAJON (KGTV) — Some amateur detective work by an East County business owner helped deputies track down two men suspected of stealing a popular wrought iron horse statue.Deputies arrested 56-year-old Percy Hill in Arizona and 62-year-old Rick Freeman near Lakeside on Friday.The men are accused of stealing the 10-foot-tall horse statue from outside the Double S Tack and Feed Store in unincorporated El Cajon on October 2. The statue weighs about 250 pounds, said owner Rita Gallant, somewhat lighter than initial estimates.After the theft, Gallant gathered surveillance video from nearby businesses and solicited tips on social media from the East County community.The video showed two vehicles were involved in the heist, including a distinctive Suzuki Samurai with a yellow flag mounted on a window, Gallant said. But the big break came on October 22, she said. Employees sounded the alarm when two men pulled up in the same Suzuki Samurai with the yellow flag. The men asked about purchasing yard art. Gallant thinks they were actually scoping out more things to steal."Not very smart," she said.After the store posted pictures and videos of the second encounter, a tipster was able to identify one of the men and deputies made arrests in two states."I never dreamed at all that I would ever get the horse back. I just wanted to make sure the people that stole him paid for it," she said.Gallant said she spoke with investigators who interviewed the suspects. "The gentleman took it for his yard," Gallant said. "He was doing a western theme."She drove the roughly 250-pound statue home from Arizona Monday night in a horse trailer. During a press conference on Wednesday, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said that he believes the police officers who shot Jacob Blake and Breonna Taylor should be charged with crimes.Biden said that the cases should be handled within the judicial system, but said that the officers in the cases should face charges "at a minimum."Biden added that the person who shot a Trump supporter during a weekend confrontation in Portland, Oregon should also face charges.When asked by reporters how Biden would keep Americans safe in times of civil unrest, Biden said he wouldn't "incite violence" and would condemn it when occurred. (KGTV) - As 10News explores Life in El Cajon, we’re examining the rich history of a city that started with “gold in them thar hills.” The name means “the box” or drawer in Spanish, referring to the way the valley is boxed in by the mountains in East County. A structure that survived El Cajon’s long history is the Knox Hotel, which opened in 1876 to house people drawn to Julian during the Gold Rush. “The people who came here were not poor, they came and they could build lovely houses and buildings like this,” said Eldonna Lay, curator of the Knox House Museum. In 1889, the railroad arrived and the town began to thrive. El Cajon was incorporated in 1912, bringing advancements like street lights and cement sidewalks. El Cajon’s main attractions were citrus and chicken farming and a warm climate for people suffering from tuberculosis. Gillespie Field played a big role in World War II. It was then known as “Camp Gillespie.” “All of the planes were being made in San Diego but they were out in what became our airfield,” said Lay. In 1947, the Mother Goose Parade was a gift to children from local businesses. In 1961, Interstate 8 opened and businesses started booming. (KGTV) - A crowd gathered in El Cajon to honor the life of a man, killed in a hit-and-run accident, on the day he was supposed to be married.Steven Johnson - a father of six and a grandfather - was riding his motorcycle to work at a Lakeside trucking company Friday, the 2nd, when he crashed around 5:30 a.m. on southbound Highway 67 just past Willows Road.He never recovered, and passed away Wednesday.Saturday, his fiancé Karlene Moen stood in front of friends and family at their wedding venue, complete with the cake and flowers, and told them how Johnson helped and inspired so many."It's amazing to see how many people's lives he actually did touch because I've always just heard about it and I've never actually seen it," Moen said. Johnson was a sponsor for drug addicts and alcoholics. He was sober almost 16 years, according to Moen. Several men told 10News they're only here today because of Johnson. They said they became sober because Johnson truly believed in them.Moen said she and her fiancé met at an NAA meeting, "he taught me how to live my life sober, he taught me how to love my kids sober, he taught me how to be a mom sober, he taught me how to be a friend sober."As she thought about her wedding day, tears filled her eyes, "we were supposed to be married today, I was supposed to take his hand and unite as one." Wiping away tears she continued, "It's messing me up, and I almost don't want to be here, because it hurts so bad, it, I feel pain in my chest."She fretted about their wedding day, saying a week before the big day she helped him get an outfit.
