POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida inmate has been charged with trying to hire a hitman to kill a child and witnesses in exchange for ,000 and a sports car.Richard Palmer, 26, who is in the Polk County Jail for lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 12 years of age, asked a cellmate if he knew anyone who would be willing to kill the child and witnesses in his case in exchange for ,000 and a sports car, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.Palmer went on to tell his cellmate that he wanted the hired hitman to burn the home after murdering the victim and witnesses "to destroy evidence." He said he wanted it done so they couldn't go to court because "he didn't want to spend the rest of his life in prison.""Just when you think this man can't get any lower, after being arrested for doing horrible things to a child, now he's trying to hire someone to kill her and the witnesses. There's not one bit of remorse in this man for what he's done," Sheriff Grady Judd said.According to PCSO, the cellmate turned over Palmer's hand-drawn map of the targeted residence, complete with landmarks, and interior layout, which was intended to help the hired hitman with the task. An undercover detective then got involved, posing as someone interested in helping with the murders. Deputies said Palmer used the term "X Out" when talking about the planned murders with his cellmate and the detective. They said Palmer gave the detective directions and promised a sports car and money in advance as partial payment. Soon after the detective was given a security code question and Palmer arranged for 0 to be wired via Western Union.Detectives said they also recorded a conversation between Palmer and his cellmate, where Palmer used the coded phrase, "Exterminate all Jews," referring to his victims in the neighborhood. They said it was during that conversation that Palmer acknowledged drawing the map.PCSO charged Palmer with two counts of solicitation to commit murder (F-1), and one count of solicitation to commit arson (F-2). His first appearance in court is set for Thursday.Palmer's Criminal History: An affidavit against Palmer for the lewd and lascivious charges was originally filed in February 2013. He was arrested in Ohio and extradited to Polk County in November 2015. Deputies said he posted bail in December of that year, but was arrested again in September of 2017 on battery on a LEO and resisting arrest charges, which prompted his pre-trial release status to be revoked. 2636

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) — Poway officials unanimously approved the use of outdoor space for fitness classes and religious services, after the state banned indoor activities at gyms and placed of worship this week.Wednesday, Poway City Council leaders voted to allow Poway park space to be reserved for fitness- or religious-related activities as part of the city's Sharing Outdoor Spaces, or "SOS," initiative. Reserving spaces will not come at a cost, according to Poway Mayor Steve Vaus.RELATED: Newsom shuts down indoor activities across CaliforniaEffective Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered all indoor activities to close at fitness centers, worship services, offices for non-critical sections, personal care services, hair salons and barber shops, and malls across the state amid rising coronavirus cases."In Poway we often think outside the box, this time we’re thinking outside the walls," said Mayor Vaus. "Last week we offered restaurants a lifeline through the simple act of loaning picnic tables and the outpouring of support in Poway was overwhelming. Given the current mandates, we need to look for creative and safe ways to help keep more ‘doors’ open in Poway. We’ve got the space at our parks to offer this, at no cost, with minimal impact on other park users."RELATED: Vista businesses allowed to take services outdoorsThe reservation of park space would be limited to Poway-based houses of worship, and fitness organizations with a current Poway business certificate and commercial insurance, the city says. The county's COVID-19 guidelines must also be adhered to, including mandates on face coverings and physical distancing.Councilman Barry Leonard said the initiative is "a common-sense approach" in response to the rollback of openings for these businesses."This is beneficial to our community," Leonard added. "We're not forcing people to do anything. We're not telling people they have to come out and be uncomfortable."Poway's decision comes the same day as a similar move by the City of Vista to allow similar businesses "to temporarily relocate their existing business operations to an adjacent outdoor area during the COVID-19 pandemic."City News Service contributed to this report. 2219

President Donald Trump had another tweet of his partially muted by Twitter on Tuesday, as the social media platform said that a tweet sent by the president earlier in the day violated the site’s rules. In the last month, Twitter has blocked or partially muted several Trump tweets after facing criticism that the social media platform does not follow its own policy toward presidential tweets. In cases like the tweet sent by Trump on Tuesday, Twitter said that the tweet is still viewable due to “public interest.”The tweet in question from Trump reads, “There will never be an ‘Autonomous Zone’ in Washington, D.C., as long as I’m your President. If they try they will be met with serious force!”Trump’s post came in response to several hundred protesters being pushed out of Lafayette Park Monday night after they attempted to bring down a statue of Theodore Roosevelt. Several protesters then crossed the street to the St. John’s Episcopal Church and spray painted that the area is an “autonomous zone.” The church was the site of a now infamous photo op featuring the president moments after officers used tear gas on a largely peaceful protest to clear the area.Twitter issued the following warning along with the tweet:“This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules about abusive behavior. However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain accessible.”Last month was the first time Twitter censored a presidential tweet.“We've taken action in the interest of preventing others from being inspired to commit violent acts, but have kept the Tweet on Twitter because it is important that the public still be able to see the Tweet given its relevance to ongoing matters of public importance,” Twitter said last month.Trump also threatened to take action against Twitter after the platform issued a fact check alongside a tweet which Trump claimed that mail-in voting is prone to fraud – a repeated claim that has been made by the president despite little evidence to support the claim. 2033

President Donald Trump is beginning to wonder aloud whether his embattled Veterans Affairs nominee should step aside "before things get worse" and White House aides are now preparing for that possibility, White House officials told CNN.New allegations of improper behavior?against Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson, the White House physician, came as a surprise in the West Wing when they were published by Senate Democrats Wednesday afternoon and have left the President and his aides more uncertain about whether Jackson's nomination can move forward, three White House officials said. While the White House was preparing for the possibility Jackson could withdraw, it was not clear Wednesday evening whether Jackson was leaning toward dropping out or pressing forward. After meeting with GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill, Jackson returned to the White House.Jackson emerged late Wednesday from White House spokesman Raj Shah's office with press secretary Sarah Sanders, Shah and deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley.Jackson told reporters, "Look forward to talking to you guys in the next few days."Sanders said they were having a "debrief" on the meetings on the Hill. The President and his aides were openly discussing the possibility that Jackson could pull his nomination, the officials said, and aides late Wednesday afternoon began preparing for a possible withdrawal -- though White House officials said the decision remains Jackson's.Trump's thinking on Jackson's nomination has been rapidly evolving. Earlier on Wednesday, he raised the prospect of going into the briefing room today to stick up for Jackson, simply to say he is a good guy and has his support. But several senior administration officials, including Sanders, advised him against doing so.The fresh allegations appeared to change even the President's thinking, who wondered aloud on Wednesday afternoon whether Jackson should step aside now "before things get worse," an official said. Trump was also astonished that few have publicly come to Jackson's defense leading the President to believe Jackson's fate is more perilous than it seemed.Asked earlier Wednesday evening about CNN's reporting, Shah said aides were "of course" preparing for the possibility that Jackson could withdraw his nomination."This is, as the President said, Dr. Jackson's decision," Shah said on "Erin Burnett Outfront." "We stand behind him 100% depending on what he decides to do. We think he'll make a great secretary of Veterans Affairs, but this is a nasty process right now."Emerging from the White House press secretary's office earlier on Wednesday, Jackson said he would continue to fight on."We're still moving ahead as planned," Jackson said, adding denials of several of the fresh allegations, including that he had wrecked a government car after drinking. But his comments belied the increased skepticism about the fate of his nomination inside the White House. One official conceded the raft of new allegations makes it harder for the White House to provide a defense.Senate Democrats on Wednesday afternoon released a two-page document summarizing allegations 23 current and former colleagues of Jackson have made against him behind closed doors. Lawmakers have not yet substantiated the claims and are investigating them further, but they included allegations that he was "abusive" to colleagues, loosely handled prescription pain killers and was periodically intoxicated.Speaking on Capitol Hill Wednesday evening, White House Legislative Affairs Director Marc Short acknowledged the claims of misconduct that surfaced hours earlier caught the administration off guard."It appears these allegations were brought to senators and so in some cases all of us are in the dark as to the allegations themselves," said Short, who added he planned to meet with Jackson at the White House on Wednesday evening. An aide for Montana Sen. Jon Tester, the top Democrat on the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, pushed back against White House criticism Wednesday, telling CNN that each Jackson allegation in the two-page document came from multiple sources."Every allegation in that document has been brought to us by more than one source," the Tester aide said. 4207
