CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Chula Vista City Council candidate Andrea Cardenas announced Thursday that she tested positive for coronavirus. In a statement released to the media, Cardenas said she self-isolated roughly two weeks ago after feeling symptoms of the virus. Cardenas said she went to urgent care, where she lost consciousness twice. She was sent home with medication before being notified she'd come into contact with multiple people who tested positive for COVID-19. (KGTV) -- A card room in Chula Vista has built an elaborate outdoor facility as a way to continue its business and comply with San Diego County COVID-19 pandemic-related health guidelines.Seven Mile Casino’s new “card room” is actually a 5,500-square-foot tent, complete with tables distanced six feet apart, Plexiglass partitions to separate players, and touchless hand sanitizing stations around the tent.Before guests can enter the area, they must first go through a health screening. Staff and patrons must wear a face covering at all times while on the property.Seven Mile Casino spokesperson Brad Samuel said they’ve been working with health officials to make sure the casino meets all guidelines. They’re even using their cameras to help with contact tracing.Samuel added, "If someone was to get sick and say later, ‘I was at Seven Mile Casino,’ we can literally show that person and show authorities every single person that that person came into contact with … so they can be notified."Now that the casino has opened its doors, it means about 300 people also have jobs again. 1112

(KGTV) - A South Bay family is mourning the loss of a beloved grandfather after a long battle with COVID-19.Salvador Munoz first started feeling sick in early August, developing a cough and fever, and then testing positive for COVID-19. About 10 days later, an ambulance rushed him to a hospital."He became disoriented, tired and couldn't get out of bed. When he talked to the paramedics, he couldn't really speak because he was short on his breath," said daughter-in-law Venessa Munoz.Venessa and his wife Bertha say he was admitted, and a week later, placed on a ventilator."He had complications and then would get better again. Just an emotional roller coaster for everybody," said Venessa.Salvador developed complications with his kidneys and then his heart. After 45 days in the ICU, Salvador Munoz, a father of five, and grandfather of seven, passed away at the age of 68."It's just so hard, so hard. I am relieved to know he is not suffering," said Bertha.Loved ones say Salvador, who owned his own cleaning business, was energetic, funny and joyful."Always the first one dancing. He lived to put smiles on everybody's faces," said Venessa.Bertha tell us she was with Salvador for more than 50 years and never spent a day apart."He was always a loving, caring, respectful man ... He's an angel," said BerthaBertha isn't sure how he contracted the virus. They rarely went out and wore masks."This is a serious thing, so take of yourself. (KGTV) - A fire in a drainage tunnel had Chula Vista firefighters donning protective masks Thursday.The fire broke out about 4:30 Thursday afternoon at Eastlake Parkway and Otay Lakes Road, near the Vons and Lowe's shopping centers. It was quickly knocked down."Witnesses reported smoke billowing from a storm drain and several people running from the area," Chula Vista Fire IAFF local 2180 officials posted on twitter. "Please give our firefighters room while they work."The Chula Vista Fire Department said juveniles started the fire in the drain and left the area. No one was hurt.Officials are searching for two teens who may be involved in the incident.Firefighters are battling a tunnel fire off of Otay Lakes Road.
