BEIJING, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- The China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) announced Monday that it will guide the nation's banks to a scientific pace of lending this year as it stressed bank loans should better serve the real economy. The CBRC said in a statement on its website that it will also expand and improve financial services in the country's rural areas and encourage banks to support borrowing activities from small-sized companies. The CBRC said it will carry out more studies in stepping up support for the country's affordable housing program, which aims to build 10 million affordable housing units for low and middle income residents this year. The commission also said it will continue to implement the differentiated home loan policy adopted last year, under which bank loans for third home purchases are suspended and down payments for all first-time home buyers are at least 30 percent of the purchase price, while second home buyers will have to pay an even higher amount of down payments, at 50 percent.Further, the CBRC said it would tighten controls over lending to local government's financing vehicles in order to ward off risks.Government data showed new yuan-denominated lending in China reached 7.95 trillion yuan (about 1.2 trillion U.S. Dollars) last year, overshooting the government's full-year target of 7.5 trillion yuan.
YINCHUAN, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Millions of Chinese Muslims across the country celebrated the tradition of Corban on Tuesday and Wednesday. In northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, 76-year-old Liu Wenming attended a religious ceremony at the Nanguan Mosque in the regional capital, Yinchuan, Wednesday morning, along with some 10,000 Muslims."My son, daughter and grandchildren will come from different parts of Ningxia to have a family lunch with me. By 9 a.m., roads outside the mosque were packed with pious Muslims. Muslims attend a celebration feast held in a street in Nanning, capital of southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, to mark Corban Festival, also known as Eid al-adha, Nov. 17, 2010. Chinese muslims celebrate Eid al-Adha, which falls on the tenth day of the twelfth month on the Islamic calendar, to mark the end of the haj and commemorate Prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail on God's command.Ten ethnic groups in China, including Hui, Uygur, Dongxiang and Bao'an, celebrate the annual festival -- but they celebrate it on different days. Some celebrated it on Tuesday while others celebrated it Wednesday. The timing depends on each ethic group's tradition. The Corban Festival, also known as Id al-Gurban, is a major Islamic festival that is meant to demonstrate believers' faith and obedience to Allah. People slaughter livestock and divide the animal into three parts. One part is to be eaten by the family. Another part is for relatives and friends. The third part is for charity.Migrant workers from northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region returned home this month in time for the festival.Eighty-seven migrant workers from Shule County returned home in early November to join their families in celebrating the joyous occasion.Additionally, the regional government organized a reception on Tuesday afternoon, during which Zhang Chunxian, secretary of the regional committee of the Communist Party of China, met representatives from all walks of life.At the end of his speech, Zhang greeted the Muslims while speaking in the Uygur language, which received warm applause.China has more than 20 million Muslims. They mainly live in Xinjiang, Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai, Yunnan, Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia and Henan.

BEIJING, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Foreign direct investment (FDI) into China rose for the 15th consecutive month in October, indicating China remains a favored investment destination for foreign businesses.Inbound FDI increased 7.86 percent year on year in October to 7.663 billion U.S. dollars, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Tuesday. The October figure means inbound FDI for the first 10 months of the year totaled 82.003 billion U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 15.71 percent.MOC spokesman Yao Jian said at a press conference China remains a hot spot for foreign investors.Foreign businesses have begun to shift their investments from export-orientated sectors to domestic market-orientated businesses because of China's improved legal system and its expanding market, he said.In the first 10 months of the year, the manufacturing sector received 47.59 percent of FDI inflows while the services industry got 45 percent.A total of 21,181 foreign-invested enterprises were approved for establishment during the 10-month period, up 16.62 percent from a year earlier. In September inbound FDI grew 6.14 percent year on year. The acceleration in the rate of inbound FDI growth was due to the U.S.'s second round of quantitative easing, some analysts explained.Yao denied the link but said the Chinese government is keeping an eye on liquidity.

BEIJING, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for China's non-manufacturing sector was back to growth in December last year after declining for two months, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) said Monday. The December PMI for non-manufacturing sector rises to 56.5 percent, 3.3 percentage points higher than a month earlier, the CFLP said in a statement on its website. The figure declined month on month in October and November last year to a nine-month low of 53.2 percent in November. The non-manufacturing PMI is a package of indices that measure the non-manufacturing sector's performance.A reading above 50 percent indicates economic expansion while one below 50 percent indicates economic contraction. It was the eighth straight month the reading was above 50 percent. The monthly rise had reflected a steady growth in China's non-manufacturing sector, with new orders index 2.2 percentage points higher month on month to 52.3 percent and new export orders jumped 3.3 percentage points to 50.6 percent, said the CFLP.According to the CFLP, the New Year holiday, as well as the coming Lunar New Year holiday, or Spring Festival, which falls on early February this year, has led to a rebound in the consumer service sector, especially in the retailing and the catering businesses. The rapid growth in the information service industry has also contributed to the rise, which had largely driven up the producer service sector, of which the business activity index was up 4.3 percentage points to 59.7 percent, it said. The CFLP also pointed out that the intermediate input price index for December was down 0.7 percentage points from the November level to 65.9 percent, indicating that inflation condition has not worsened in the past month, but it suggested the government closely monitor its future trend.Noticeably, the new order index for the real estate industry remained below 50 percent by falling 2.3 percentage points to 45 percent, which was "a move toward the government's macro-control target", said the statement.
