OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — The pandemic is creating a serious budget crunch for the volunteer non-profit organizations that provide key funding and support city libraries across San Diego County.Gail Wells of the Friends of Oceanside Library says fundraising efforts have almost completely dried up. “We make ,000 a year on book sales. And we make ,000 on Farmer’s Market sales. We’ve lost that. We can’t have any book sales," says Wells.Other fundraisers have had to be canceled, as well. Wells says they have tried to get creative, including selling used books on Amazon and offering drive-through boxed book sales, where for , people can buy a box of books in a particular genre without knowing precisely what books they will receive. “A lot of people will say I don’t need a box of books. And we’ll say all you need to to get one book you like and it pays for your box of books. Sometimes it works," Wells said.The fundraising woes come at the worst possible time for Friends of the Oceanside Public Library because they are about to lose their office/sorting room. That’s because the city is tearing down the building to make way for a new fire station. Thus far, with their resources drastically slashed, the group has been unable to find a new space.“We’re doing the best we can,” Wells said.The Friends of the Oceanside Library has launched a GoFundMe campaign to try to raise ,000. 1408

They stood there all night. Me and some of my squad mates got out and went back to pull the rest of our brothers out that couldn’t do it for themselves for various reasons.”He also asks people to pray for the Marines still hospitalized and some badly injured.“it’s just kind of a traumatic thing I think when you go through something like that,” J.R. Koontz said. “I believe they put all the guys that were hurt in the accident in the wounded warrior battalion so that gives them time to go over what happened."The Marine Corps is not paying the flights and hotel stays for the families visiting the injured Marines. (KGTV) -- Police in Oceanside are searching for an at-risk missing man last seen Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m.According to police, 92-year-old George Serenbetz was last seen on the 3500 block of Pear Blossom Drive around 2 p.m. Tuesday. Serenbetz is described as 6 feet tall with brown hair, blue eyes and was last seen wearing a blue, long-sleeved shirt and blue jeans. Police say he has knee problems and dementia. OTAY MESA (CNS) - Authorities Tuesday released the names of a 70-year- old man and the two San Diego police officers who shot him in Otay Valley Regional Park in Otay Mesa when he allegedly pulled out a handgun that turned out to be a replica.Around 6 a.m. Thursday, Officers Jeremy Huff and Filip Perry from the Neighborhood Policing Division were in the park, near the 500 block of Beyer Way, to conduct an outreach and cleanup operation in conjunction with other city agencies when they encountered Carlos Soto, who was staying in an illegal encampment, according to Lt. Andra Brown of the San Diego Police Department."When officers approached the man, he produced a handgun," Brown said. "Officers gave the man commands to get on the ground.
