United Airlines said it's suspending a program that transports pets in cargo holds.It will stop accepting new reservations for its PetSafe program, though it will honor any reservations made through March 20, the airline said.Passengers can still carry small pets with them in carry-on luggage.The suspension comes as United reviews its pet transport policies, a process that should be completed by May 1, United said.United has experienced some major pet-traveling disasters recently. Victoria's Secret CEO Jan Singer has resigned amid a sales slump and competition from young companies challenging the brand's grip on the lingerie industry.The Wall Street Journal first reported Singer's departure last week. VENICE, Fla. -- A Florida pet groomer is under investigation by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office after a recent video of alleged animal abuse surfaced on social media.The video taken by former Happy Puppy Pet Spa employee Briana Brady, shows another employee putting both hands around a dog's neck and laying it down on the table, leaving Brady to label the action as animal abuse. Brady first witnessed the alleged abuse when another dog left the salon with a broken jaw.“The dog was picked up by the throat, choked, shaken and then his head slammed on the table,” Brady said describing the video.The viral Facebook video has over 250,000 views. Brady worked at the Spa for four weeks prior to posting the video on social media.“It was very hard for me to witness any of that happening," Brady said through tears.The woman in the video who owns the spa, Phyliis Lucca has a different perspective. She claims that her actions weren't abuse, but instead necessary steps for the dog's overall health."If you see the video, I know it looks bad, but that’s not what I’m doing," Lucca explained. “What the dog did was pass out and she faints and what I did was hold her head and shake her. That’s all.”Two weeks prior to the video going public, a puppy named Pumpkin left the spa with a broken jaw and bruises all over his stomach.Lucca claims that Brady was the one responsible."The only one that was in the room alone, with the dog, was Briana.”However, both Brady and Pumpkin's owner, says they believe Lucca was the only one who could've have harmed the dog. The Spa owner hopes to move forward and survive the blow to her business.“If I get through this, I won't have another groomer in the store because nobody can be trusted now.”Brady and Pumpkin's owner say they will be pressing charges against Lucca. 1853

Uber announced Thursday that it's introduced safety features in select markets, including a new emergency button.Denver is one of the cities where Uber is testing the new safety features. They're designed to keep riders connected if they need help, so even if they're riding alone, they're never really by themselves.Among the new features is an emergency button that connects users directly to a dispatcher. In some pilot cities, like Denver, once a rider presses the emergency button, their location and trip details will be automatically sent to the 911 dispatcher.There are other initiatives Uber is planning to roll out this summer across the country, and not just in pilot cities.In the "Safety Center," users can find tips from law enforcement, learn things like how Uber screens drivers, and insurance protections. "Trusted Contacts" allows riders to pick up to five friends and family members and share trip details with them during every ride. That way, they can follow you along and know when they've arrived.When it comes to drivers, Uber says it is also strengthening its screening process and will keep doing background checks on drivers every year. They're even investing in technology to let them know if a driver has a new offense.Uber says based on how the 911 pilot goes in Denver, they will decide whether or not to expand to other cities. 1417

Two childcare workers have turned themselves into Florida police custody after a video surfaced of them berating, taunting and throwing a backpack at an 8-year-old child with autism.On Sept. 1, Winter Haven PD found out about a Snapchat video showing 26-year-old Kaderrica Smith and then 19-year-old Alexis Henderson taunting, aggravating, yelling at and tripping a student at Our Children's Academy.The 8-year-old is seen and heard in the video crying and hiding underneath a table while Henderson and Smith continue to taunt him.At one point the child tries to run towards one of the workers when she grabs his arms and sweeps his legs out from under him causing him to fall.The video lasts about three minutes and at one point shows one of the workers throwing a backpack at the child, hitting him in the face."There has to be an accountability measure for folks," said Winter Haven Police Chief Charlie Bird. "Especially when they're supposed to be the professionals. They get hired as the professionals, they're being paid as the professionals."In initial interviews, the two said they felt they were acting appropriately and did nothing wrong. Henderson and Smith just received their certification for childcare last month. "Those aren't methods that you can even begin to defend as being used to defuse a situation with an autistic child," said Bird. They were each immediately fired by the faculty and DCF placed a hold on their certifications.The child was interviewed by a DCF Child Protection Team member on Sept. 15 and it was determined the acts were criminal.Police were initially unable to locate the two, thus giving reason to issue a warrant.  1713
