(KGTV) — At least 50,000 people were ordered to evacuate as multiple fires burned north of Los Angeles Thursday amid dangerously dry and windy conditions.The Tick Fire started about 2 p.m. in the Canyon Country area of Santa Clarita and spread east to Agua Dulce. Cal Fire reported about 8:30 p.m. the fire had spread to 3,950 acres. Several structures were lost. As of 6:20 p.m., firefighters had slowed the fire's progress.Mandatory Tick Fire evacuations are in effect for all residents north of 14 freeway, east of Whites/Plum Canyon, south of Vasquez Canyon, west of Agua Dolce. (KGTV) - A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch from Florida Wednesday afternoon with a planet-searching satellite on board for NASA.The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) is part of a mission to find exoplanets that periodically block part of the light from their host stars, events called transits, NASA said.TESS will survey the nearest and brightest stars for two years to search for transiting exoplanets, according to scientists. NASA’s satellite will look for stars 30 to 100 times brighter than those observed by the Kepler satellite launched in 2009.TESS also will scan a larger area than Kepler, NASA officials said. It will spend about a month at a time focusing on one portion of sky, eventually covering the entire sky. TESS was designed to be stable in order to focus its cameras on the stars it will monitor.The launch had been scheduled for Monday in Cape Canaveral but it was postponed for additional systems analysis. 951

Gavin Newsom said he expects about 56 percent of the state's population — or about 25.5 million people — will be infected with coronavirus.Newsom requested the president send the USNS Mercy Hospital Ship to be stationed at the Port of Los Angeles through Sept. 1 in order to "decompress our current health care delivery system in Los Angeles" amid the coronavirus pandemic."As you know, California has been disproportionately impacted by repatriation efforts over the last few months," the govenor wrote.
