HONG KONG, July 20 (Xinhua) -- A photo exhibition opened here Monday to mark the 30 anniversary of the establishment of China-U.S. diplomatic relations.     The nearly 300 photos on display range in time from as far back as the voyage to China of the American trading ship Empress of China in 1784, to the G-20 Summit in London this year. He said that the exhibition will provide an opportunity for people to know further about the importance of Sino-U.S. relations so that they will make greater efforts to promote the relations.     Also speaking at the ceremony, U.S. Consul General in Hong Kong and Macao Joseph R. SHANGHAI, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Serbian President Boris Tadic on Sunday visited China's economic powerhouse Shanghai, continuing his week-long visit to the country.     Accompanied by Wei Jinghua, China's ambassador to Serbia, Tadic arrived here Saturday evening from the ancient capital Xi'an in northwest China.     During his stay, Tadic visited the landmarks of Shanghai, such as the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Yuyuan Garden, a renowned traditional Chinese-style garden, and the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center, where the progress of and plans for the city's major projects are illustrated.  Serbian President Boris Tadic (1st R) looks at a Shanghai local dwelling during his visit at the Shanghai History Museum in Shanghai Municipality, east China, Aug. 23, 2009.    Tadic made the week-long visit as guest of his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao.

PHUKET, Thailand, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi underlined here Wednesday the importance of tapping new areas of economic growth so as to enhance cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN).     Yang noted that one area of development is to implement plans to enhance agricultural productivity by drawing on advanced technology and to accelerate the cooperation on new and renewable energies. The ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers' Meeting is held in Phuket, Thailand, on July 22, 2009."We have maintained high-level exchanges, enhanced political mutual trust, shared development experience and strengthened confidence in cooperation," Yang said at the China-ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting on Wednesday afternoon.     China and ASEAN have completed negotiations on the China-ASEAN Investment Agreement, paving the way for the full establishment of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) in 2010.     The ASEAN on Monday appreciated China's active role in developing transportation infrastructure between the two sides and welcomed the establishment of the 10 billion U.S. dollar fund for bilateral investment cooperation.     In April, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said that China has decided to set up a 10 billion U.S. dollar "China-ASEAN Fund on Investment Cooperation" to support infrastructural development in the region.

It will feature 156 panel discussions to explore a broad range of issues, including cultural diversity, AIDS, child trafficking, global aging, ethnicity, urban development, religions and linguistic evolution.     China is hosting the congress, which first met in London in 1934, for the first time.     Yunnan is home to 26 Chinese nationalities.
