LOS ANGELES, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Turner Network Television (TNT) said it will re-air the Emmy Awards-nominated 1999 television movie "Pirates of Silicon Valley" Thursday night as a tribute to Steve Jobs, Apple's creative co-founder who died overnight.According to the cable television channel, the original drama will be shown at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Pacific Time.Adapted from a bestseller "Fire in the Valley: The Making of The Personal Computer" by Paul Freiberger and Michael Swaine, the 95-minute made-for-television docudrama follows the fascinating and unforgettable race between technology rivals Apple Computers and Microsoft, two fledgling computer empires which have literally changed the world in many areas.It stars "ER" and "Falling Skies" actor Noah Wyle as Steve Jobs, Anthony Michael Hall, who played the leading role in the USA Network series "The Dead Zone," as Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Joey Slotnick ("Nip/Tuck") as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.The film debuted on TNT in June 1999 and went on to garner five Emmy nominations including Outstanding Made for Television Movie and Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries of Movie.Wyle impersonated Jobs at the 1999 Macworld conference and delivered the opening remarks. BEIJING, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- Renowned China economist Li Yining said Saturday that adjusting the structure of China's economy is a "matter of life and death" while the structure of GDP is more important than its size.The focus of the country's economic structure adjustment now should be transforming the dual structure in the urban and rural economy, which causes the widening income gaps between urban and rural residents, Li said at the China Economic Forum.He also noted that the key to stimulating domestic demand is to raise the workers' wages.With the external demand waned, the Chinese government has attempted to turn to domestic consumers to take up the slack. WASHINGTON, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday approved Erwinaze to treat patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), who have developed an allergy to E. coli derived asparaginase and pegapargase chemotherapy drugs used to treat ALL.Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes too many lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. White blood cells help the body fight infection and are formed in the bone marrow.Erwinaze is injected directly into the muscle three times a week and works by breaking down one of the body's protein building blocks (the amino acid, asparagine) that is present in the blood, and is necessary for the growth of all cells. Leukemia cells cannot produce this protein building block. When a patient is treated with Erwinaze the leukemia cells die. Normal human cells are able to make enough asparagine for their own needs through biosynthesis and will not be affected by treatment with Erwinaze."The approval of Erwinaze underscores the FDA's commitment to the approval of drugs for conditions with limited patient populations with unmet medical needs using novel trial endpoints," said Richard Pazdur, director of the Office of Hematology and Oncology Products in the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.Side effects associated with Erwinaze treatment include serious allergic reactions, inflammation of the pancreas, high blood levels of liver enzymes, blood clotting, bleeding, nausea, vomiting and high blood sugar.

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia reported on Monday that some 54 Cambodian children had been killed by dengue fever in the first nine months of this year, compared to 37 kids dying of the disease in the whole year of 2010.From January to September this year, some 12,392 cases of dengue fever had been reported with 54 children killed by the disease. The whole year 2010 reported only 5,497 cases, Ngan Chantha, director of dengue control at the Ministry of Health, said on Monday."This year's rainy season has been plagued by floods, leading to more cases of the disease," he said. "I would like to appeal to parents to let their children sleep under mosquito nets and if their kids have any symptom that is suspicious of the disease, they should urgently send them for medical attention."Dengue is caused by mosquitoes. The disease causes an acute illness of sudden onset that usually follows symptoms such as headache, fever, exhaustion, severe muscle and joint pain, swollen glands and rash.In Cambodia, the outbreak of dengue fever usually begins at the onset of the rainy season from May to October. 

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Online retail giant Amazon is working on a smartphone scheduled to be released in the fourth quarter of 2012, U.S. media reported Thursday.A note from Citigroup analyst Mark Mahaney obtained by technology news site All Things Digital said that based on the supply chain checks in Asia, Amazon is believed to launch a smartphone in the fourth quarter of 2012.According to the note, Amazon is working with manufacturer Foxconn and the device will run Texas Instruments' OMAP 4 processor. The Kindle Fire, the latest tablet introduced by the e- commerce giant, also uses OMAP processor.The analyst said the smartphone will cost Amazon between 150 and 170 U.S. dollars to build and the company could sell the handset at or near its cost rather than a 30 percent gross margin like many other smartphone manufacturers usually do.The move is expected to further intensify Amazon's rivalry with Apple and Google after the e-commerce giant had made moves on some booming businesses like tablet computer and cloud-computing service.
