Bringing calm to what could be a chaotic kitchen, Jacqueline Bonanno has years of experiencing leading women and men.“I think that a diverse workforce is the best thing you can have,” said Scott Henley, director of operations for Bonanno Concepts.Bonanno owns four restaurants across Colorado and is considered an inspiration for the next generation of aspiring women business owners.“I love it,” said a cook at Green Russell, a cocktail joint and restaurant. “I got a daughter, and I will be proud of her one day when she opens her own restaurant.”A new study shows more women are becoming business owners across the country.“For the last several years we’ve recognized the importance of the impact of women entrepreneurs,” said Allen Gutierrez with the U.S. Small Business Administration.He says between 2014 and 2019, the number of women-owned businesses increased 21% to almost 13 million nationwide.Gutierrez added the reasons in growth range from more opportunities to more women making a side hustle a legit business. Whatever the reasons, he projects even more women to become business owners“Certainly, it makes an impact in terms of the domino effect in their community,” Gutierrez said. “Then you see those increase and become even stronger and be an employer based in that aspect.”As more women own their own businesses, Bonanno reflects on balancing making a profit and parenthood.“There were times when I was nursing in the basement and lectured by a manager that that was inappropriate,” she said.The ability to overcome obstacles has others looking to Bonanno as a source of inspiration“It shows you that I can do it, too,” said Alexis Broswell, a line cook at Green Russell. “You just have to have the confidence.”While flattered by the compliment, Bannono is now focusing on nurturing her employees to go out and open their own businesses.“When I see what young women are doing right now, I think it’s breathtaking,” she said.Despite having big dreams, Bannono says when starting a business, that it's best to start small and grow from there.“Try to stay away from investors if you can,” she said. “There’s nothing but opportunity and it’s just going to get better and better.” 2203

BOSTON (AP) — Prosecutors dropped a case Wednesday accusing Kevin Spacey of groping a young man at a resort island bar in 2016, more than a week after the accuser refused to testify about a missing cellphone the defense says contains information that supports the actor's claims of innocence.Spacey was charged with indecent assault and battery last year in the only criminal case that has been brought against the actor since his career collapsed amid a slew of sexual misconduct allegations. The two-time Oscar winner was among the earliest and biggest names to be ensnared in the #MeToo movement against sexual assault and harassment that swept across the entertainment and other industries.Spacey denies groping the man, whose mother first went public with the allegations in 2017.A phone message seeking comment was left with Spacey's lawyer.The actor's accuser was ordered to take the stand earlier this month after he said he lost the cellphone he used the night of the alleged groping. The defense said it needed the phone to recover deleted text messages it says would help Spacey's case.The man denied deleting messages or manipulating screenshots of conversations he provided to investigators. But when he was pressed by the defense about whether he knew that altering evidence is a crime, he invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, and the judge said his testimony would be stricken from the record.The judge then questioned how prosecutors would be able to bring Spacey to trial if the accuser continued to refuse to testify, and prosecutors told the judge they needed time to decide how to proceed.On Wednesday, Cape and Island District Attorney Michael O'Keefe said in court documents that they were dropping the charge "due to an unavailability of the complaining witness."The hearing at which the accuser testified came days after the man abruptly dropped a lawsuit he had just recently filed against the actor that sought damages for "severe and permanent mental distress and emotional injuries." From wearing a mask to not being able to talk with a teller, several changes have been implemented in recent months.At Michigan Legacy Credit Union, a cashless transaction requiring the help of a teller can now be handled from home, from the mall, or by the lake. They launched the virtual teller app in early July."As long as you don't need a cash transaction, you can open up a membership, you can apply for a loan or a mortgage," Teller Michael Castano said. "There's so many different member service opportunities you can have just from the comfort of your home.""Only 7 percent of our transactions are done by members in our lobby with a teller. Everything else is electronic format," CEO Carma Peters added.Peters said declining transactions in brick-and-mortar branches has fueled the credit unions to push to mobile banking, and since COVID-19, there's been a massive increase in mobile banking."We let members call us, text us, chat us, use our mobile website. Our mobile logins went up in the month of April by 50,000," Peters said.She said the plan was to equip branches with virtual tellers before launching the app. That comes next.Banking in-person has also taken on a different look. He was the only entrepreneur to create three different Fortune 500 companies during his career -- Blockbuster video, Waste Management and AutoNation.At one time, Huizenga, 80, had owned three sports teams where he lived in South Florida -- the Florida Marlins, the Florida Panthers and the Miami Dolphins. He was worth .8 billion, according to Forbes."He had a magic ability to create a business that was unmatched," said AutoNation CEO Mike Jackson, who confirmed the death. "Ideas were exploding in his head. He was bound and determined to out entrepreneur every other entrepreneur."Huizenga was awarded expansion franchises to bring both the National Hockey League and Major League Baseball to Miami in 1993. The following year he purchased the Miami Dolphins. While he owned the three sports teams at the same time, he didn't run all three major companies simultaneously.
