SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The family of a man who was hit and killed by an Amtrak train Tuesday night is grieving and hoping he doesn't die in vain.Wentian He, 79, was walking across the train tracks toward the bus stop when he was hit and killed by an Amtrak train, according to his daughter Lilian Zheng. Zheng said her parents were on their way home from shopping.Wednesday, her mother was sobbing, saying she didn't want to live by herself.Zheng said her parents were married 54 years and she saw her dad as a healthy man, young and strong."He really enjoy[ed] learning the streets, the culture, how to behave in this foreign country. He worked really really hard," she said he was part of the Communist Army in China and it took him a while to get 'un-brainwashed'.Her parents emigrated to the U.S. in 2007 and she says they've been enjoying retirement, "They always together go out, they like to go to the senior center, because they can meet new people, they go to the flea market, or small shops so they can find unique stuff."Those trips, now cherished memories.Zheng hopes change can be made at the Washington Street station to protect people like her father. "The two tracks are so close they can cross, there is no [barrier] when Amtrak came, there should be a second gate," suggesting another barrier between the two sets of tracks."I feel life is so fragile, you know he's such a strong father and we've been depending on him," Zheng said tearfully, now they're leaning on each other.Zheng has a sister and niece in China. She hopes to bring her sister to the U.S., so they may fulfill her father's wish to show her the U.S., and bring his remains home to China. 1677

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The man who jumped on stage during a Taylor Swift concert and assaulted a security guard was charged Monday with a deadly beating in the Midway area, police said. Christian Ewing, 29, was charged for the death of 57-year-old Gregory Freeman, according to SDPD Homicide Lt. Anthony Dupree. Officers got a 911 call about an assault near the Interstate 5 overpass at 3900 Rosecrans St. the evening of Dec. 5. A witness said a victim was on the ground and another man was hitting him with an object, investigators reported. He died three days later of his injuries. The suspect fled the scene, police said.Ewing was arrested on Dec. 21 for a parole violation and rebooked Monday on suspicion of murder. In 2015, Ewing jumped on stage at Petco Park as Taylor Swift was performing. Swift’s personal security guard, David Durkin, told Ewing he was not allowed to be in the area. During a struggle, Ewing seriously injured Durkin. Prosecutors previously said Ewing had several arrests in multiple states, an active warrant for a theft-related offense out of Florida, and a felony conviction for transporting drugs from out-of-state. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Sunday, doctors revealed President Donald Trump is taking a steroid, called Dexamethasone, as the latest medication for his coronavirus treatment."We just don't know what's going to happen next, things are very unpredictable," Dr. Christian Ramers, Chief of Population Health at Family Health Centers, said.Ramers has seen thousands of COVID-19 patients and says the disease has two phases, virus production and inflammatory. He said the shift generally happens seven to ten days in."Once things kind of shift, the damage actually comes more from the immune system's response than the virus itself," Ramers said, which is why a steroid like Dexamethasone is prescribed."Where it showed a decrease in mortality was in people who already required oxygen or if they were even sicker than that and were on ventilation," said Ramers, citing a study.Sunday, doctors stated the president received oxygen Friday before being taken to Walter Reed Medical Center, but said his oxygen levels only dipped to 94% and 93%. Normal levels are 95% and above.Ramers said studies show if you give the steroid too early or to someone who has a mild case, it could cause harm. "If you dial down the immune system too early or in a case that is really mild, you might have the opposite effect you're looking for," Ramers said.There's also a list of side effects."If you use them for a chronic basis or for more than a couple of days there is a long list of things it can cause. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Navy is trying to find the owner of a boat that washed ashore at the Naval Base Coronado.The boat washed up and came to a rest against the fence that separated Coronado’s dog beach from the base.The Navy is asking the owner to come forward immediately to have the boat removed. The problem can get costly for the Navy.Several boats have already washed ashore this year.
